Underfunding. $50 taxpayer k up in smoke most likely cause it worked too long.

You noticed how shabby some of the bike cops kit is?

I did an interview with some and my gear was in better nick than theirs.

Yes - the heated seat on those beemers really is very effective...

Looks like a fat fire. Maybe the BMW Dunkin Donut Fryer in the pannier went up while the motorist was being chastised?

On the bright side, my entertainment choices for tonight are sorted. Just have to decide whether to watch Blazing Saddles or Hot Fuzz.

awwwe shit!

...just glad to see none of our friendly CHCH/KB popo weren't harmed in the process.

It would be fucking heartbreaking to sit there and watch a nice bike like that go up in flames...work bike or not...its no way for a bike to go

He'd just locked up a guy for possession of a Class A drug and a BB gun. Stopped him for not wearing his seatbelt and found those things too. Bloody good Popo work, that. He got back on his bike and started to head back to the Bat Cave when it went up.

He parked it as soon as the smoke started, then stood and watched as it went up. A nearby Police car emptied an entinguisher into it, but to no avail.

When the Fire Guys turned up, it was all over. Like, all over the road.

One word to describe the fire? Violent. Holy cow, it melted the insulation on the overhead power lines, and a mirror on an adjacent car.

The rider is all good.

When I worked for the Post Office many years ago, I twanged one of their cars.... broke the steering rack on a Ford Sierra by hitting a kerb when I was distracted. The amount of paperwork I had to do was phenomenal.

A total loss like that implies a metric shit ton of forms to fill in.

Worry not. I'm wading through the admin as we speak. Though it's not about paper these days, it all about the electronic bandwidth that gets consumed by the online notofications we now use.

I'll be having a look at YouTube later, when the BBQ was running there were truckloads of people there with their iPhones etc, I expect it's worldwide already.

What do the popo do when it gets cold in Christchurch, just throw another bike on the bonfire. :innocent:

Actually sad to see as I suspect the bean counters and bike haters will make it hard to replace. :pinch:

Maybe, I'm assuming it's a lithium battery of some sort.

With Pork ???

I've got a recipe for pulled pork I want to try. is that helping?

I think the po po should replace the Beemer with a new Motus V4.

I like it.

1650cc V4 making 180hp at less than 8000rpm and 230kg dry.

it did look impressive!
Look, I know its winter, but seriously, that really is a bit of an OTT way to warm up on a cold winters day. Daym beemers, never trust 'em!

The authority version bikes run a dual battery system.

Last issue I read like this (and the NZ cop bike isn't the first), the blame has been fingered on the seat support rail. When incorrectly installed the bar that runs across the front of the seat can short the battery terminals. Wunderlich sells an accessory (don't they all) that supposedly helps guide the seat into position. Not sure if the RT seat layout is the same as the GS (other fires have been on GS's).
