Freighting shit to Christchurch from Dorkland

Have tried, so far unsuccessfully to find a freighting outfit who can and will deliver a Fibreglass stock car body to a guy in Christchurch.
It weighs fuck all, but is a bloody nuisance of a size at 1.8m long, 1 m high and 1 m wide.You could fill it with other stuff if it's on it's roof.
Trick is not to ave to pay more for the freight than it costs the guy to buy.
Anyone out there who can help?
So far best price is 2-3 weeks to get there and $380.00 for the privilege.
I'd thought maybe $150, but this is daylight robbery.

Your'e right, it's size is an issue, it is a bit fragile, though it could handle having other stuff stuck inside it.Yes the cost to an individual would make their requested $380.00 odd pale into insignificance.
But they have the advantage of time and space and with a bit of thought IE: stacking it with other stuff it's size can be overcome.
Problem is ordinary people can't get things like this delivered for what it should cost because those working in the businesses doing the robbery are going to get paid on Thursday anyway and couldn't give enough of a fuck to go that little bit further and make it happen for a reasonable price.
Least thats currently my position on this issue.

I cant guarantee anything yet but next Friday I may be picking a vehicle up in Orkland and driving back which could fit it in, I will know on Wednesday

With the greatest of respect, you want them to stick your body into a truck then hand fill it with other stuff, transport it to CHCH, then hand unload the other stuff at ChCh. For this you want to pay $150. What happens if the car body gets damaged by the shit stacked inside it, then the truckie will cop it in the ear . As someone who has done a fair bit of line haul & still runs a large truck , I would run a mile from this. $380 sounds fair.

Personally I reckon even $380 is too cheap, given the hassle the item would represent :gob:...but hey, I've only been trucking for 25 odd years, so what would I know :woohoo:

The item is described as 1.8m3 in size, fragile and oddball shape. For comparison a standard chep plt size is 1.2m x 1m.
So for starters your 50% over a 'normal' freight item for big rig and going to be blowing out two plt spaces.
And while its light and can go on top of other stuff so does 50% of the other freight on the truck. You'd be surprised how often trucks are chocka to the roof inside.
As the man above says $380 is probably pretty cheap especially if its 'loose' and not in a crate and its 'door to door' service? If you and the receiver can drop and pick it off/up at depot may save money.

Well it would seem that I am behind the times and definitely in danger of upsetting the truckies who also ride motorcycles. To answer all points would take too long and as I'm trying to keep the total cost down for the guy who wants to buy it from here and freight it down there I don't see the point in having protracted arguments with you'all.
Suffice to say that so far the $380.00 was the cheapest, average being $600.00 and time being anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks.
I simply feel that this to expensive for the average joker, I certainly could not afford to do this if it was something for myself.

Make sure you put it in a box or something. A wooden crate at best. My younger brother is a loader at mainfreight and he has no issues destroying shit that is not packed properly.

They had a guy come in once claiming they broke 3 aircon units worth 12k each. My bros response was, "If they cost so much and are so fragile, why do you only wrap them in cardboard? We stack shit in the back of the trucks to achieve maximum loads, if your sick of your shit getting broken then pack it properly or go ship with someone else" He still ships with mainfreight... If you ship a vehicle with them, and you don't declare the gas in the tank. Then they will happily start your shit up and take it for laps around the carpark, or just rev the fuck out of it for a laugh.

If you really want it down there scratch free than you will have to spend a bit on packaging or just trailer the cunt down there yourself for peice of mind.

I've done a lot of general freight carting and now prefer to trailer something like this myself.

If not then you'd still have to be there during both loading and unloading so you could see for yourself how some dumb fuck on a fork lift destroys it for you.

Not upset at all, just being upfront. The trick might be in getting the item stashed in a van or light truck being moved, rather than moving that car body on its own. Freighting an oddball item on a premium freight route by general carrier is always the expensive option :wings:

Was thinking I may be able to help as I get good freight deals but not on objects that size. In saying that I recently sent a Bullbar from New Plymouth to Nelson & Hookers were half the cost of Main Freight. I would go with Kaspers option, call it a very light motorcycle ;)
