Hey guys and girls...I'm pondering selling the tiller
Its a 98 tls 1000...38k...ohlins shock...forks revalved and sprung by robert taylor [mr ohlins] to suit my 95kg weight with leathers on...need_less to say it handles really well...ohlins steering damper...in silver [the second fastest colour]...double bubble...yoshi rs3 race cans [103db]...next to brand new pilot powers [500kms]..
what would people pay for it...or does any one think they might like to own it...?
oh and I have a comp werks fender eliminater kit that will probally be installed for the new owner unless someone offers me a decent price for it?

I've got a mate who's looking for a bike at the mo' but he's only got $5,000 and I presume you'll be looking for more like $10,000.

$8500 without the Ohlins steering damper and rear shock (imho)..$9700 to $10000 with.....
Sometimes it is easier to sell bolt on parts seperately to try and recoup more of the outlay depnding on how many mods there are, they rarely add true value at resale ...As far as TL's go it can depend on how clued up the prospective buyer is.
Don't ask

No idea of value mate. It's definitely more than what I can afford.
Looks very nice BTW.

Not too many silver ones around CP, looking sharp, well sharper than mine anyway  its' well set up and for anyone seriously looking into a TLS they should understand this, you should be able to get close to $10K, i'd be ono on it, some people are selling the likes of R1's and GSXR's for around that, which makes it harder to sell at top dollar, but the TL is a great bike and still is, and with a reputation to match :devil2: , all the best of luck to you mate.
What you planning on next????????

hey bruce...totally agree with you...this bike is better setup than 95% of tls out there...
rsvr factory....or k5 gsxr750 + ohlins [forks+shock] and oz rims + a couple of engine goodies...not sure yet
The other plan involves chassis strenghtening...swing arm strenghtening and ajustable rear ride height for the tls...and custom fuel cell under the seat...gut petrol tank...make custom airbox...move eletrics and battery...cam shafts...power commander...brake upgrade of some sort...full race exhaust...ohlins forks[maybe]...oz wheels...[5.5 inch rim so I can run 180 rear] maybe some head work...port polish...intake and exhaut matching...I want 140 rear wheel...but will settle for 135...Hmmm
still to decide....thats why I'm pondering

and i'll triple that.
now how can you put that down.
on a serious not 8.5k with bits.
i got to say though that would be the bottom end. they are so holding their price big time. it sucks.

Fuck me that'll be one hell of a TL if you do, do that. The GSXR750 would still be my pick of the bunch, as the GSXR is already so much lighter than the TL and RSVR, with the ohlins goodies and a little tweaking the 750 would be a weapon anywhere. I looked at trciking my S out before my off and it just made sense to sell it and buy the K3, the amount of money i'd have to spend to get the TL upto that kind of spec as oppsed to the $13K i paid for the K3, i just couldn't justify it.
But i'd be going for the 750 fir sure, why not the 1000?

I don't need the power of the 1000...there are very few circumstances where I would use it...or want it...
for example....I was reading o-100kmhr times on the net for various bikes the other week...k5 gsxr1000 2.8,zx10 3.04,r1 3.13,999s 3.28, and I recall a 0-62mph [aka 100kmph] time in a article i read on the net for a tls was...2.82 standard in 1999...hmmm....most of those big inline fours will have overtaken the tls by around 150-160 and the gsxr is probally about to lap me...but I think the speed limit is only 100[well maybe 140-160 on a nice summers day] and I'ld rather play with corners than straights....on the track well yeah the power would be good at the topend [thats way I'm thinking modding the tls and chassis to handle it]
other wise buying a more nimble and accurate handling machine with better power than what I've got...hence rsvr factory or gsxr 750 + goodies
in saying that...I was racing what looked like a 03 rsv over the rimatakas the other weekend...and he was attacking the corners really aggressivly and harder than I was...and I just stuck to his tail the whole way...I don't think I would have been able to pass him though....he was pulling a few metres in the little straights and I would catch up after a few corners...

Fair enough CP, one of the biggest things bout the 1000's though is that you dont have to use the power as there is a shitload of torque on hand, more than a twin in some cases, the power is good though when the urge comes to loft the front in air at 170kph :devil2:
Buy the 750 or mod the TL dont let the team down.

I agree about the need for power, or the lack of need. I'm heading for the cbr600rr probably. But then again a 636 or R6 might do. Keen to try out a gsxr 750 also...

you mean a collection of bikes...I already have five...don't need any more.
I'm thinking seriously about having a bit of a save-a-thon and going the GSX-R 750 maybe
{i sence a smile on LB face already}
Hmmm
Who's got a k4-k5 GSX-R 750...any opinions...does any one know a link or two to any reviews-tests on the net??

30th August 2005, 18:46
okay people...the TLS is on the market...and the suspension goodies go with it...
one catch...I'm keeping the ohlins steering damper.
so the ohlins shock goes with the bike and the gold valves, etc
$9000
or we could do a deal where a deposit is payed and you take over the payments of $65 a week...or refinace with help from my incredibley no pissing around broker...who will finance just about anything.
sound like a good deal???

If it were my bike/money we were playing with.
Id mod the Twin Pot. Just somthing about the thump as opposed to the F1 Scream that i prefer.
In anycase i would rather have somthing that performed on corners better than straits.
I think the power of the 1L 4 pots is over kill. fun, but seriously over kill.
If i had the money, Aprilia RSV1000R. a nice two pot that handles out of the box.

is that a challenge :bash:
I rode a gsxr 750 a week ago...k5...it was quick...but didn't put the power down like my TL...it would beat the TL...in a race...no question!!
But if you read the mods planned on the previous page you'ld know where I'm going to head with this...it WILL superseed the abilities of any late model 750..and be knocking on the doors of the latest litre bikes...I hope
