I'm looking for some nice windy roads close-ish to the northshore to ride this Sunday. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY?? =) feel free to share your knowledge & wisdom with me! cheerios =}

Good choice:niceone:
Just don't get complacent with the immense power increase over your 250, as for windy roads can't help I'm afraid, google maps might be able to though.

Take this route...grab a burger/chips at Shelly Beach and turn around and do it again.

Good-looking bike. But that is a huge step up. Reminds me of an older thread here... Be careful out there

Yeah that SH1 to Wellsford is mint, can always count on at least 25 truck/trailer units between Puhoi and Warkworth/80k zones/2-3 speed cameras and very slow camper vans looking for a turn off they past 2km ago

Nah, he went from a 2009 bike to a 2006 bike so it's a downgrade :whistle:

Take SH1t to warkworth and then turn right towards Leigh. Turn left towards Pakiri Beach and follow that road thru to Wellsford. After you get to the top of the hill, there is a mint view back across towards Kawau, then the road drops down the other side and becomes gravel for a coupla k,s. Go a bit slower on it and you,ll be fine. It is worth it for the next bit thru to Wellies. Don,t need to take the side road that actually goes to Pakiri Beach unless you want. Turn left at wellies and go to the bottom of the hill turning right onto SH16. Follow this for about 30odd k,s and then turn left onto Woodcocks to take you back thru to Warkworth.
don,t forget to breathe and smile. It can be therapeutic to wave at the livestock.

Take SH1t to warkworth and then turn right towards Leigh WHILE BACKING OUT UNDER HEAVY BRAKING. Turn left towards Pakiri Beach and follow that road FAST DOING 200 CLICKS thru to Wellsford. After you get to the top of the hill ON ONE WHEEL, there is a mint view back across towards Kawau, then the road drops down the other side and becomes POWER SLIDING FUN gravel for a coupla k,s. Go a bit <strike>slower</strike> THROTTLE HAPPY MX STYLE on it and you,ll be fine. It is worth it for the next bit thru to Wellies POPPING MEAN WHEELIES. Don,t need to take the side road that actually goes to Pakiri Beach unless you want CAUSE THERE ARENT MANY STRAIGHT ROAD WHERE YOU CAN TOP OUT 299KPH. Turn left at wellies and go to the bottom of the hill turning right KNEE DOWN, SCRATCHING YOUR BOOTS AND KNEE SLIDERS onto SH16. Follow this for about 30odd k,s DODGING ALL THE CAMPING PIGS IN THEIR UNDERCOVER HOLDENS and then turn left onto Woodcocks to take you back thru to Warkworth TO HIDE AT MAHA'S FOR A BIG BARBECUE AND A FEW BEERS.
Let me fix that for you.

Fuck that's a big step up mate, how are you finding the difference? Some people don't even recommend jumping on an r6 straight off a 250, let alone an r1!

I'd suggest riding the nice windy roads that you are already familiar with from riding on your 250 would be a great place to start.

it feels like a totally different riding experience, i feel WAY more comfortable hanging off the side going through a corner, the power is crazy.. first day i got it, turned off a main road & thought I would open it up abit to test out the gooo!! & to my surprise the front wheel picks up! totally freaky i hadn't realized the raw grunt of this bike! I had half a second to decrease the throttle or else .. one thing i learnt that evening is that i must always have motorbike in my life =]

I had a few people saying I made a big jump up going from a klx300 to a z1000. It's funny though, my race bike I rode for 4 years before even getting a 250 was 77kg and 70hp at the wheel. So even my z1000 is a step back in terms of power to weight ratio.
Glad to finally have my license done and dusted. Bigger bikes make bigger smiles!

Congrats on the bike man, I know exactly how you're feeling right now, I also started off on a Ninja 250 and went to a SV1000S when I got my full and I couldn't believe how different it was and I spent all summer out riding it every chance that I got, just make sure you take the time to get used to the bike and the power.
If you're keen I'll be heading out for a ride on Sunday through whitford, maraetai, clevedon, kawakawa etc. your're welcome to tag along if you don't mind riding out that way, some really nice coastal roads.
By the way I'm new to Kiwi Biker and keen to find other riders to ride with in Auckland so if anyone else is also keen for whitford this Sunday let me know.
