Hey guys a few back I had a bike stolen . I have seen it on trademe recently and told the police but feel they aren't that interested. Understandably I am very keen to have it. How would I get on if I went and "got" it back myself. Reprocussions??

Depends whos got it, I got one back off a local gang of fuckwits down here known as the firm, I was actually disappointed at the amount of resistance they gave me. I even made them push it back across town to my folks place where they stole it from.:2thumbsup

Hey guys a few back I had a bike stolen.
A few what? Days, weeks, years?
If years then it's probably not being sold by the guy that stole it. If the cops knocked on your door could you prove you owned it?

Sorry, 4 years ago but doesn't change the fact it was stolen, no insurance. From the photo it looks like it has been stored for awhile. Ill be really fucked off if the police don't get it. I have a photo before it got taken. Same grips. Same creases in plastics, same after market seat cover. Crack in the air box, holeshot device, aftermarket axle blocks. And compare scuffs on engine case and its like a finger print.

do you have any serial numbers to prove it is the same bike?
after four years theyll probably just argue that its been dropped a bunch and its just a coincidence that there are similarities.
Id be inclined to go and 'look' at it, take a camera, ask questions about it, how long theyve had it etc.
Youd wanna be pretty fuckin certain it was your old one before doing anything drastic

I had a stolen bike turn up on trademe a couple of years ago, I had insurance and had been paid out on it so we put the insurance company on to it, a few days later it was still up so i got a heap of friends to ask him stupid questions,

Yes - but this should be the last approach

Having owned an ex-stolen bike I can let you know that insurance might have gotten it back and then on sold it. So don't jump to conclusion immediately.

This is what you should do. If they say they have had it for 4 year..........burn their house down.

Police might be ignoring your stolen bike but they certainly won't ignore you doing their job for them.

If you still have the crime number, call the station where you reported it stolen every day and ask for an update. Ask if it has been assigned to anyone to investigate, if it has ask to speak to them. Keep doing this until they do something about it.

A officer is looking into it, listed so many things for him to check, and he has a photo of mine to compare and a kid could determine its the same bike. Because I had no insurance Im extremely keen for a good income if not vigerlante will prevail

Excellent news!
A mate I went to school with had an '84 XR250 nicked from the school car park, it was returned 9 years later after the cops found it in the garage of a local drug dealer's house, still with the the frame numbers on it.
Now if only they could find my B2000...

So are they charging anyone? Bike ok?
I want my PE175T back. Got lucky with my DT200 (& the YZ250 that went with it), but 'lucky' was a mate calling the cops when he saw it & jumping them.

He was stoked, especially as it was in better condition than when it got nicked as someone had spent a bit of money on it at some point.

A few years back I had a duke stolen by some druggies, cops called me after they had a tip off but insufficient for search warrant. After a mate and I paid a visit to site the bike the cops busted them them and recovered it. From a repair cost it was basically write off (uninsured). So the cops did me a good turn but the justice system failed me big time: Cops couldn't get search warrant in the first place then a judge gives the offender some community service and fails to award a single cent of the $5000 damages ! WTF is with that ?

that was lucky when my 1st one was stolen it has never been seen since 2008 the last one bout 2 years ago was recovered 36 hrs later and was a right off motor didnt really enjoy the 20ks down the motorway fully tapped out. Guy was caught and is inside on a number of charge's got paid out on both tho 2nd one was better insurance company forgot to deduct the excess when paid out then when guy was convicted they refunded it to me lol so ended up $300.00 up and one day if im really lucky the dick inside has a court order to pay me the $300 as well not sure that will ever happen tho.

Great outcome, good for you for being persistent.:2thumbsup Sounds like a few stolen bikes end up at dealers houses, about time we legalized cannabis to help stop motorcycles being stolen.:Punk::Punk:

pigs wont give a shit.go for a test ride on it and take it back.heres a story to bore you with:
had my bike frame on my trailer after picking it up from painters a while back, nek minnit a car pulled in front of me and a lady got out yelling at me, in the rush of things and trying to avoid running in to her, i hadnt heard what she was sayin. then two police cars pulled in behind me and they all jumped out, all that was missing was guns blazing and it would have been straight out of miami vice.:ar15:turns out one of the pigs son had his bike stolen, and they thought it was the one on the trailer.the first car to run me off the road was this detective bitch who was sayin " we got ya now" an shit like that. didnt wanna know about what had to say.then i had to wait for the guy to turn up to ID it. he turns up an says its not the bike they all get in their cars an drive away, completly ignoring any protests i had... if it had been my or any other jo average bike nikked do ya think it wouldve got that sort of response.to save thinkin to hard about it the answer is no fukin way. fuckwits
