Camera mounts

Alright, as the title says Im pretty keen to make/buy a mount for my digi-cam. I dont really wanna duc tape it on the fuel tank so something more secure sounds good. Has anyone ever made one before? or bought one from somewhere. Ive got some crazy concepts in my head, thought id just ask around first incase there is a better way.

Swanman and I made one last summer for our bikes. The easy one we made is a slab of alu with 4 holes drilled out (3 screws come out of the fuel filler and go thru the 3 holes in the plate (will need slightly longer screws) and 1 for the cam), and then it should point straight out the front visor. Then for a back facing one, we did a 'cradle' (with big thanx to Speedpro) which I haven't finished yet, which screws into the rear pillion pegs and holds the cam in place..

just be cheap, and creative.. Pyrocam put his camcorder in his tankbag!

And when it turns to shit (with a camera it prolly well) your camera gets fucked in the crash) have you thought about buying a pencil camera?
I got a colour one from Jaycar electronics, my vid camera sits inclosed in the tail unit, and the bullet camera sits anwhere you please on the bike, the bullet cam is strong enough to take a point blank shot from a .22, (there words, haven't tried) but it looks pretty tough, black and white bullet cams go for around $90.00, colour $320.00, last time i checked.

So $320 more than a bracket, cheaper than a new video camera, more mounting options with the smaller camera, can even helmet mount if you want, if you want to have a look at mine and some of the footage i've got let me know.

I saw one like Bugjuice described at Manfeild last time, didn't talk to the chap so don't know how it goes, but I was thinking along the same lines myself.

And when you see Loosebruce's one, ask him to show you the Coro(?) ride on his TL where he did test the durability of the camera mount. :psst:

Some folk use a bracket that uses longer bolts and uses the gas cap.

Had a mate hook a flat bar and medal saddle (lined with rubber) that fitted and latched over the handlebar, beside the headlight, pencil camera fitted to bracket and camcorder held in tank bag. Later used for radar dectector. :ride:

He used the same concept on his car, used to attach the camera to the front of the sunroof, on a slight negative angle to give the rally view.

Hijack - Does www.sportsbikesnz.co.nz have a physical location? Tempted by the possiblity of getting belly pan and undertail and hugger for the SG350, but not sure about fit, as not built specifically.

I modified a mounting from a tripod. I only have one of those sony digi cams with limited movie play....works fine tho

An ordinary 1/4 inch bolt fits the tripod mount on your camera. Fit the bolt through a wood block, glue the block to a piece of plywood, glue the ply to some foam, bungee the assembly to your tank, screw the camera on. Look through the viewfinder and then glue on more foam to angle the view till you get what you want. Rubber on top of the screw will let you adjust left and right. Bulb release taped to the lefthand grip lets you shoot when you want. Job done.

I bought a helmet cam off e-bay. Very cheap and if you have an AV in on your vid cam, a breeze to set up. You can pretty much attach the camera where ever you want with the vid cam in your back pack. Bit safer for your vid cam then. The pic is a still from some video with the cam on the back of a mates bike.

Wonder if you could mount on of those mini cameras behind and above the bike, just like the 3rd person camera angle on video games. Would make for an interesting video

Nah mate, you've lost it here.
You're supposed to mount and LCD display in the helmet so it is like playing the 3rd person video game!
