Do you still have the ST4 pipes?
I've got 'modified' ones and find them too loud.

No sorry John, Stoney bought them a few months ago. I'm sure you can pick a set up if you are patient, lots of people replace the standard pipes. In fact he might not need his own standard pipes - do a search here and send him a PM.

You could make up a db killer to insert into the outlet to knock back the racket. Good image 'db killer' for inspiration. I made a set for my yoshis tuned them to the noise level I desired.

Turns out Stoney hasn't done his mods yet.

A DB killer is a good idea, even just some steel wool or fibreglass batt stuffed into the pipes would help. Experiment.

Cheers, today to unriveted the ends , made up a flat plate with a hole in and put it all back together, way quieter, test ride tomorrow.

What I now know about modern exhausts:
The are divided into 3 chambers.
The gas enters and goes to chamber 3
Gets sent back to chamber 2 ( does not pass go or collect $200)
Then back into chamber 1 and then out the back past 2 and 3.
From my old skool perspective a rubbish design for performance but clever for noise reduction in small area.
Went for ride and it was great, no more horrible " booming" at 4000/5000 cruising speed.
That and new tyres makes for a big grin.

Sorted! All the aftermarket cans run a 50mm perforated core surrounded by packing and come with db killing inserts in the outlet end. Stock systems are much more complicated, and heavy!!!

It is surprising what a reduction in outlet diameter makes to the sound. I've played with various outlets on my Yoshis - very easy to change over only three bolts per side to remove the back plate. lopping 50 mm off a db killer makes a surprising difference. No variance in performance that the dyno butt notices.

Still for the outlay of 0 I'm happy enough.
Funny how they make the way the fuel go in very sophisticated yet the gas's exit is pathetic.
