An 84-year-old driver who killed a motorcyclist as he drove the wrong way on a dual carriageway has been given a suspended six-month jail sentence.
Michael Lake died when he was hit head-on by Hulbert on the A47 Swaffham bypass. Hulbert had made a U-turn onto the carriageway after turning onto it by accident. He thought it had reverted to a single lane, when in fact he was driving the wrong way down the outside lane.
Judge Paul Downes said "You were not driving recklessly or badly but your confusion and momentary mistake had very serious consequences for the young man on the motorcycle. Whatever I do today can never be enough for his family and can't bring him back."
Hulbert was banned from driving for life and ordered to pay costs of £866.

Did he have his licence removed permanently and ordered to sell his car?

It was probably you who kindly redirected his little red Mini in the correct direction Lou - but you wouldn't of got off lightly,he wouldn't of been doing anything wrong in his eyes and you would of got some abuse if not a clip over the ear for being such an arrogant young man.

Well as Vicki and I were descending the 'HILL' on sunday a green subaru wagon coming UP the hill was nearly fully in our lane... Gleep. He realised in plenty of time and there was a ton of space for us to run off into so no real danger but this turkey was happily pootling up the hill (very light traffic going up) on the wrong side of the road...
Thank goodness it was on a straight (ish) bit with good vis but I did wonder what kinda drugs he was on...
Cheers

My grandfather was on valium when he decided his Valiant had been magically transported to an alternative motorway, where everyone apart from him was going the wrong way...

I vaguely remember that, did he travel from Lincoln and get off at Western Springs?
