Attention all motorcycle riders!

How do you really know you have the skills required to avoid a crash? It has been shown that at some point a rider (through someone else's fault or through their own fault!) will find themselves in a situation where they need to immediately demonstrate the skills needed to stay upright. These skills are much more than simply riding the bike!

Find out how good you really are by registering for a mototcycle course (one day) and learn some helpful tips which will increase your enjoyment of riding while staying safe on your bike. Avoiding crashes depends on your riding skills, so the more skills you have the better rider you'll be. You must have a motorcycle license and your own bike to participate.

Hamilton City Council has joined forces with Waikato District Council and Waipa District Council to deliver a series of highly subsidised motorcycle safety courses throughout the Waikato region.

Roadsafe Rider are the providers for training to be held at the Waikato University in Hamilton, from 9am - 4pm, taking place on:

Saturday 19 October 2013
Sunday 20 October 2013

Saturday 23 November 2013
Sunday 24 November 2013

Whether you have been riding for years or starting a new hobby, there are training days available to suit all riding levels. The courses are all about increasing your skills and confidence on your bike.

The Saturday course is for novice and intermediate riders and returning riders.

The Sunday course is for more experienced riders.

Skills covered include cornering, braking, bike maintenance and taking the fear out of riding slowly, as well as learning how to manage your risk by avoiding hazards, and reduce your risk of crashing.

The training is being delivered as part of the Ministry of Transport’s road safety strategy called Safer Journeys. The cost of the training will be subsidised by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) and the three Councils. Places are limited, and your investment is $50 (including GST) for a one day training course.

Participants must provide a safe operating motorcycle or scooter, and wear appropriate protective riding gear – all skin must be covered, including covered in shoes or riding boots. Bikes must have a current registration and Warrant of Fitness as required.

Bookings and payments can be made directly with the Roadsafe Rider. Registrations close Tuesday 15 October 5pm for the October courses, and Tuesday 19 November 5pm for the November courses.
