This is Kim, I bought her as a project in a non running condition off a fella who had it sitting in a shed for a couple of years doing nothing.

She is a 2003 KTM 525 SX featuring the renowned quick revving monster 510cc RFS engine. She has an unknown amount of kms/hours when I bought her but is now starting and running very well and is an absolute blast to ride - I have only put about 2 hours since I gave her a full service. I have spent a lot of time tidying her up and getting her running well and now it is time to sell as I have my eye on a new bike. She does have a few minor scrapes but on the whole she in reasonable condition.

Features:

- Kick start only
- Brembo brakes front and rear with braided lines
- Earthing Systems grounding system
- Keihin FCR 41mm flat side racing carb
- White Power (WP) 43mm forks and PDS rear shock
- catch cans for fuel and radiator overflows, and crank case breather.

What has been done in the last couple of months:

- New engine oil, oil filters, spark plug, brake fluid, coolant, clutch fluid and fork oil.

- Carb was completely disassembled, cleaned in an ultrasonic bath then reassembled to factory specs.

- Front forks were pulled apart, cleaned thoroughly and reassembled to factory specs with new oil.

- Valve clearances checked and set.

- TrailTech speedo/tach unit installed, this will need to be hooked up to a battery to get the full use out of it.

As you can see I was toying with the idea of getting her street legal hence the tail light (led with integrated indicators) but have changed my mind. It would be dead easy to swap the road wheels out for dirt wheels/tires.

Not looking for trades, just want to sell, questions welcome :)

how hard to road register?

Not 100% sure, would need a d.o.t. rated headlight, a horn, indicators, switch block and a mirror for a start. There are a few others here that might have a better idea than me for sure

I would imagine it would be pretty simple,
Get a compliant road kit on it,
Call KTM with the serial numbers and trace back to the original importing dealer, get the documentation,
Vin that bitch.

Don't quote me on it as I have never revinned a bike/car but I would think that would be the case.

My understanding of it is that if it wasn't imported as a road compliant model initially then it's a bit more involved a process and has to comply with the requiremnts of a low volume cert.

I have vinned a couple of bikes. The most important thing is to have some documentation. I had none for an off-road bike I had. So, I went to a cop station and got a piece of paper that said there are no claims or outstanding issues with the bike. Some Vin places wouldn't Vin it, but I found one that would and did it. It also helped that it had apparently been in the system before - frame number. You may get some hassle with the brakes - they have to be checked to some standard by some expert. You will need some papers ... and just because one place says they won't Vin it does not make it impossible. Try another place!
