View Full Version : Aucklanders, watch out, MX5 driver threatening to hit riders for free repair

I saw this on another forum, read what Kieran has to say about taking out riders to get his fender repaired.
http://www.mx5forum.co.nz/viewtopic.php?p=63492&start=0#63492
"No most motorcycle accidents are caused by the dickhead on the bike doing stupid shit instead of staying in the line of traffic
e.g. overtaking me on the left side of the road which is an illegal maneuver!!
I CAN'T SEE YOU APPROACHING ON THAT SIDE!! IF YOU WANT TO OVERTAKE. OVERTAKE DON'T UNDERTAKE!!
Now that my rant is over please be warned anyone here who rides a bike if you see a white NB with a black Hardtop don't try and undertake me because I try to hit those people... I have some damage on my front passenger fender that needs to be fixed and I don't care about hurting you for a free repair."

Mine is an NA model and I don't have any dents on it. And to boot, I always keep a look out for bikers coming up behind me in traffic and move over either way they prefer, to let them through.

Send his rant to all the insurance companies.
Kinda of automatically done what with his registration number and first name being in this thread. Most competent claims processors will google a persons name and rego number etc in the early part of the claims process. A friend who is a broker says this often brings up people selling their own 'stolen' jewellery/goods etc on trademe and will also find stuff like this and also where personal items/vehicles used for business. As he's made more than one post about it I'd say he's stuffed if those exact circumstances happen, deliberately or not.

Nah I hope he does get caught. Going 45kph over the limit with no seat belt on and rolling through a stop sign. And gets hit with every fine possible and the car taken off him.

Anyway, talking of Auckland and wankers, I am up there next week for the very first time that does not involve a walk between the domestic terminal and international terminal. I might actually get to see some of the place. So, are there any bikeshops within walking distance of Greenlane? Limited range in Dunedin so I might have a spending spree if there is anywhere to go.
On that note, is K Road far from Greenlane? Sounds like the place to be.
And I promise if I see an MX5 anywhere I will key it.

You would have to catch the bus from greenlane to K rd, unless you like long walks. Dont remember there being too many bike shops around Greenlane either, but its 20 something years since I lived up there.:Punk:

Hi Kieran,
No apology necessary mate, Kiwi Biker has more than its share of knuckle-draggers who are happy to jump on any bandwagon. My wife has an MX5 with all sorts of trick bits on it and it's huge fun to drive on the twisty roads where we live. I'm personally more concerned about the poor driving habits of 4x4 owners and Harley riders but we can't say that, can we because that would be a generalisation

C'mon mang, he only came here to make sure he didn't get caught up in mistaken identity. He's a good dude and not the same Kieran as 'Kieran'. Quite apart from anything else though, he doesn't care about power; he drifts pretty successfully on his little 1.6L engine :)

I hope I a trucker / rider sees him do this and squashes the bastard

On the road in NZ they're very hard to beat anywhere twisty.
Especially when they have Bridgestone RE002 tyres fitted
Or Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs!
I've since grown up and into a Honda S2000 but I remember having a great time "holding off" a Commodore in my '89 Roadster coming back from Raglan. I was more than happy for him to pass on the straights but he couldn't catch up post-corner :D

Don't disagree, but it's what he likes to do and he doesn't need power for it!
Anyway, at least he's not out hunting for bikers to sideswipe like a douchebag, eh?
I happen to quite like drifting...a lot of fun. Circuit or road racing series are more my cup of tea though. Oh...and don't stress what you hear on these forums either...most people hear are MASSIVE keyboard warriors themselves. Kieran will get what's coming to him one way or another though. (Although, i suspect he's an internet 'hard guy' who's mouth ran off without his brain and in reality he's packing fudge right now. Doubt he would have the balls to do what he claims in real life. If he does, hopefully one day our paths will cross, until then, I am hardly going to assume that every MX5 owner is a fuckwit on crack aiming to purposely hurt me. Plenty of other clowns to worry about without that sort of carry on.

And an experienced rider on a 600cc motorcycle would outcorner your landwhale busa, but I'm guessing you have fun on it and so do the MX5 drivers - so let's live and let live, eh? Last thing we need is more hate on motorcyclists by having people tar an entire community with the same brush.
Through a set of tight twisties, I'll take the cunt on on a 250cc...he can have his Busa. It ain't all about the HP/kW...

A mate had one running RE-01R rubber, shit it was brilliant. Only problem with the uber good rubber on most road cars is it shows up how weak the chassis tend to be. But a few under body braces under the ol' girl really perks 'em up :Punk:
And some boost.

I'm really not a fan of the MX5, heaps of mazdas more modern FWDs are faster and more fun. My mr2 would blitz them in autocross. Plus it always feels so anemically slow. Friend wants me to turbo his, already built the rollbar and some random shit for it. It has good tyres, lightweight volks and manual etc but it's still lost on me. My shitbox $100 mkI mr2 with the 3sgte brings far more giggles.

As far as conversions go they are fairly easy and cheap enough to get a snail mounted to.
Have yet to drive an MR2 out the box as well balanced as an MX5, but nobody is fooling anyone, they're as slow as fuck. Even the NB Turbo model was slow.

They don't have a surfeit of power, but then they were designed to be a cheap, fun sports car, useable in every day traffic. The S2000 is not as tractable, but has another 110hp. I'd like to have both, but I know which would be better on the run out to Piha and in Auckland's traffic.
I don't like the later MR2's, although the convertible's aren't too bad, by this I mean looks-wise. The hard-tops were like a mini Ferrari if you got the turbo'd one.

The day you took me for a race around dirt track in your MR2 made me want 1. You had that thing so sideways every corner I was surprised it came back straight!
A stripped out turbo MR2 would be a laugh as a road car.

My road mkII has a quadcam lexus V6 in it. Dark purple thing with in dash DVD and shit but you won't see it round much. I've been out of the dirt track loop for a couple years now, just busy studying and whatnot. I have the RWD turbo prelude ready for this season though; hopefully the engine holds long enough I can iron out the kinks with the Vtec engagement.
As for handling you will find with the mr2 handling no one and I mean no one runs the correct alignment. They plough into understeer then snap oversteer like turds on stock alignment, at least halve the toe in and it improves 10 fold. Stagger the rim offsets slightly and run slightly wider tyres on the back. The mkII has dominated E-stock over in the states for a long time. Toyota really fucked up the standard specs for toe. I do silly shit in mine. Old but you get some idea they are quite tossible, this is pre locked diff to.

Nah, no stress :)
Kind of like it hear so I may poke around elsewhere on the forums. I've got a few biker friends and I've long considered looking into a bike so maybe it'll rub off on me ;)
As for Kieran... he's not much of a 'hard guy' in real life; let's just say the description earlier in the thread probably wasn't his mum. I wouldn't wish violence on him but I think I already said I hoped he was shitting his pants and learned something from it!

I don't disagree on the S2000's handling compared to the MX-5. The MX-5 is definitely far, far more predictable but the S2000 in my experience is far sharper all around, particularly if you get the alignment sorted or have a later model. I definitely wouldn't say no an MX-5 to track alongside my S2000. I'm guessing you'd pick the MX-5 for the best of both worlds, but I daily my S2000 and have taken it to the track and I wouldn't have it any other way :)

I used to own an MR-2 G-Limited as well, and test drove a turbocharged model while I was looking before buying my MX-5. Definitely feel very, very fast but I found it far too loud certainly in turbo form!

I can't disagree with you about the S2k, I'd love one. Who couldn't love 240 hp in a car that size and that good looking?
It's just that for most situations, the MX5 is more "accessible".

Yeah I know, didn't have my gloves either. That car it's hard not to thumb it because I'd so often have to let go with one hand and rip the handbrake; on a tight course it's terrible. It has no power steering and being fwd back then I found it hard to pull the lock I need any other way. It's gotton off line before and broken ribs against the side of the seat, kinda damned if you do damned if you dont. If I could get a quick power rack I'd be better off, however I can use 2 hands now; just pop it up on the clutch.

Back in the day before GPS, one of the better jobs I had was control of aerial top dressing in Kaiangaroa forest.
The idea was we would put up a cluster of hydrogen balloons at the corner of each block that was supposed to get the Super.
We had to be quick - those planes are expensive to keep waiting.
We had rented Ford Escorts, with the gas cylinder strapped across the back seat, the roads were closed and we told to "go for it" :wahoo:
