everytime i boot windows, i seem to be reminded why i hate it so much.

this issue:
hangs and reboots if logon left for too long
hangs or reboots if login too slow

i've seen (once or twice) the following (ish) errors:

"windows cannot create (admin?) userspace" *reboot*

"windows cannot verify the license on this pc" *reboot*

BSOD

and then it will miscellaneously work. and then do it all again later.

NOW, hypothetically, the OS is a cracked copy of XP pro, and hypothetically, it has previously exhibited similar symptoms and hypothetically i have phoned m$ to get a fuck-off long number to put in, and it started working again
(i've hypothetically done this twice, both in the more recent ownership of this particular PC.)

also, domain logons (when i log into work) come with ten kinds of fucking problems, like not mapping network drives and loosing .inks. i am not sysadmin, so cant do full diag. clues?

and mainly: any ideas on which parts of the registry i should delete to stop windows being this gay? is there another method?
asides from rem c:

Get some decent hardware then. You must be running some shitty old hardware if 7 or newer isn't supported.

at least one of your issues is because your version is hacked.
at least one is because someone has messed up the install
Several others are because you are obviously using Noah's Old PC and for a couple of hundy at PBTECH could have something better. Win 7 is fine, btw, in some respects a lot better than XP.

At least 7 has much better software support than XP, if that's a reason to make it "less shit".

It's pretty easy to get a win xp key, just go to a place like red shed and find a computer case, take a pic of the license sticker on the side then put a scratch through it so it can't be used again, easy free legit xp

i dont need or want newer hardware. 7 doesnt support the older shit and is resource hungry like a black african.

How old is the PC? Machines do get old. Depending on how much they've been fucked with (and I've seen some crazy stuff) a re-install will assist, but won't get around hardware problems (see question about age).

Since it's a work PC, domain joined etc, stop fucking with it and let IT deal with it. Nothing worse than trying to fix a machine somebody "tried" to fix...

I have used XP for over 10 years without any drama and have used windows 7 for a year again with no drama.

I have to use Ubuntu at work and I am forever having to install the network drivers, reboot because programs lock up and just generally put up with the queer shit that is linux. The only good thing about it is the terminal...if i can even get it to open.

The other day I had about 10 terminal windows open and then the 'taskbar' thingy wouldn't let me click it to let me choose which window to go to. Had to minimise all my applications to find the window I wanted.

If I was using XP or 7 my productivity would be a lot higher.

Linux is for geeks who don't mind fucking around for 12 hours getting things to work.

Linux wins if you dont take shit from it. And config it properly. Yes, a bit more involved to set up, but much slicker once done.

And the lack of gfx support. But people should be putting pressure on manufuckturers To release code non proprietarily. Then m$ will loose gamers. And jews wont get paid.

For all you lot arguing, it's horses for courses. I have a couple of Win 2000 boxes still running, as they have extremely important, but simple roles. No user ever touches them, so who cares.

XP won't magically break when MS stops supporting it, but yes, exploits etc are a risk. However, MS keeps fucking with the OS, making it different, and who the fuck cares. The OS is to do functional shit, not play with the OS itself. Avoiding Win8 as best possible for now, ideally our clients upgrade to Win7, and a lot have, but there's a bit of XP still around. Companies aren't made of money, and machines are not just upgraded because a new OS comes out.

Heh. Linux... free if your time is worth nothing. Has many kick arse uses... desktop computing is definitely not one of them yet. Quite likely ever. The Linux revolution is like a train wreck 10 miles from the station in a distant tunnel... you're pretty sure it's supposed to be here by now... but it has never arrived and you don't know why.

My drone runs on it... basically a flying web cam... fantastic for that. Right tool for job as it were.

I got banned from the PCLinuxOS forums for griping about something - I think it was lack of support for my wireless kb. It wasn't even a gripe really, just a question about how I could get it to work with a small vent of frustration after listing what I tried.

Best thing windows ever did IMO was to have the free beta release of W7. Prior to that I had been running *ux, and prior to that I was running a less than legit version of XP. After running W7 for a year and seeing how everything just worked, and how stable it is, I had no problems parting with the cash. I certainly don't miss the days of jumping through hoops for the windows activation stuff. Or not knowing whether my problems were caused by something I'd done, by a legitimate problem with the OS, or by some munted piece of code to 'patch' the OS.

it was a srs question. I do appreciate the lulz, but meh.

You've already had some pretty good answers, but just for more lulz:

Windows reports illegitimate OS - between you and M$, need to either 'patch' it or legitimise it. Possibly if you get a legit key you will need to remove/reinstall windows
Windows unable to allocate space - either related to above, or possibly hardware limitations - disk full? insufficient ram?
Problems connected to domain - possibly related to either of issues above, perhaps you could join the domain in linux to do what you need to do, unless you need win specific apps? You could run them in wine or something, but probably would need better hardware to do that.

In terms of having to uninstall/reinstall OS, I've had to do that more often with linux than windows, even in the bad old days.

Best bet: update hardware and get a modern OS

couple of last thoughts: Have you installed/changed/downloaded anything lately hadrware/software

Is the case full of shit?

Ah yes - you stated Windows was not influenced by other softwares.......as for the theft thing. Its a 2-ways street. Basically all the networking source in CLI now emulates commands from good ol' DOS.
Not to mention the "Mint" button on Cinnamon and its handy little search feature.
You probably don't remember the hoops that you had to do on Ubuntu way back in V6 when you connected a second screen. "WHAT DO YOU FUCKING MEAN YOU CAN ONLY CLONE THE DESKTOP!!!".
Good times - not.

6 of one half a doz of the other. I am looking forward for Ubuntu to go mobile. Looks promising. Likewise SteamOS looks fun.

As for the blonde and the dictionary. If you sit either on the desk you're telling me one thing. You're not quite sure what to do with that computer thing.

It's not really a "better" OS if the majority of software the user needs isn't compatible, and there isn't any alternative. The best OS is the one which does what the user requires.
