Aw man, for the first time since getting my licence I will be bike-less. Work, study and life have conspired to make it infeasible for me to run and ride my beautiful busa! It's funny, when I was younger, I thought shit, I will always have a bike and will never have the excuse to get rid of it, but getting roundhouse kicked by reality and responsibility has meant, I can't ride for while. It feels like there is a hole in my heart, especially when I see people riding past on a great day. So after my two smokers, my motards, my dual-purpose uglies, my superbikes, my sport-tourers and hypersports, I am now looking at an empty garage......:no::bye::sick:

How have you guys and girls coped with being bike-less at times?

Will be at least a year or two before I'm back on two wheels.

P.S The rego, and insurance for a busa is stupid, I remember what it used to be, when I had my bird a long time back, and what it now....sweet jesus.

Sex, drugs and rock and roll. Tis the only way I can cope with it, must be just over 2 years since I got nabbed. At least I can still ride my dirt bikes, that helps to take the edge off from time to time.:eek5:

I caught the bus.

You think I'll get arrested if I sit on top of the bus in my bike gear and lean in to the corners?

Could never be bike-less, I can't even bring myself to sell the CR that just sits & waits... If only they weren't so aggro about riding on rail tracks I could ride it to work then, I just don't have much time for her otherwise

In 8.5 years I've been bike-less for 3 weeks. No, I didn't handle it well, and riding balances me out (however skew that balance may be).

I think it will get easier after a few months, especially if you're doing it because you're busy with other things. Focus on the positives, like the savings, then spend them on a new hobby

I've taken a break from riding a couple of times when other things became more important.

Other things being family, competing in sports, fishing, hunting and a combination of all four.

When I get into something I tend to become so totally involved that most other things simply don't get a look in until I've achieved what I set out to do in what ever caught my interest this time.

Bikes to me are just there weather I've involved at the time or not, other things come and go and once I'm over them I always return to riding.

But it doesn't have to rule your life.

I started fixing things. Buy a 1950's house.......they leak the same as a triumph so you will feel right at home.

I bought my first bike in 1974 (I think) and I've never been without one since ... I feel for you mate - I have no idea how I would cope without one ....

I've managed 6 months with no licence - but I had bikes to work on - and more recently managed 3 months with no licence .. which was hard ..

A mates bro was getting himself into hock for bikes & had to sell out at a loss. Always wanted more than he could afford. But said he'd rather have the latest thing & would just have to wait till he got it. Hasn't for a few years. Seems dumb, those bikes were fine for when they were new.

Extreme? Pull yer head in & buy a small cheap old but non competition dirtbike & go on some organised rides. A new kick for little outlay.

I turn into an right angry arsehole (according to wifey) when I'm without two wheels.

Family things come up from time to time and you gotta sacrifice what you hold dear.
That's why I sold the kids to get the TL :2thumbsup

I bought a push bike, made the most of the circumstances that left me bikeless and just looked forward to the day when circumstances would allow me to be on two (motorised) wheels again. It took twenty-something years but was worth it all.

Those blackouts, huh? Don't worry, won't tell anyone about how you woke up wearing nothing but women's underwear... It is stressful being bikeless.

In 3 years of riding I've been bikeless for 5 weeks due to a crash. All I can say is thank fuck for video games.

Friend of mine lost his licence so he's storing his bike at a mates because it would be too hard and tempting to see it every day for those 3 months.

I may as well copy this word for word.

I had to use "public transport" and I actually made it to the gym and work on time.

I stripped my bike for a similar reason. I knew if I left it sitting there, I would of ridden it, and the thought of it getting impounded makes me sweat, so it sits there in bits taunting me everytime I go in my shed.

Jeez .. I can't believe the replies here that say that - and you call yourselves bikers ??? Make time .. even if it just riding to work and home each day ..

Yeah - last time I was suspended I parked my bike in a mate's garage and we put a padlock through the front disk. I told him "Don't give me the key for three months ..." The previous time I lost my licence I went home and dumped the bike engine on thebench - I figured by the time I got it back in the frame and running I would have calemd down ..

Both ideas worked ..

No you might get room and board...ok if you like a padded cell :killingme

Sometimes my Busa sits idle for a whole day or two, until a ride gets put at the top of my to-do-list. Sometimes it's even the wife who tells me I'm getting grumpy, so she'll almost order me to take a ride...:buggerd:

The longest time was approaching 6 months. Bike was at a "mechanic" who was attempting to fix an intermittent death.

After several goes at picking up the bike and still having it die whilst riding home...

The mind-fuck of not having 2 wheels was doing me in.

Solution: BUY A NEW BIKE!

It was a thing of beauty, as well.

I've always had more than one bike on the road - if one stops I'm never without a running bike ...

I seem to crash my bikes after about 12 months, so I get a semi-regular new bike to play with, lol

Now I got the missus on the back tho i'm a bit more careful

I was bikeless after an accident, then spent the insurance money on an overseas trip. Spent 1 1/2 years without a bike then bought a cheap RGV250 which I blasted around on for a couple of years until a nice Fireblade came up for sale.
I have spent a few years not riding (Obsessed with something else) but just put the bike on hold. Got back on it and couldn't believe I did without it for so long.
If you can afford it just stick it on hold and store it. Or you could buy a cheap and cheerful RGV250 with much lower rego costs so it doesn't feel like you are wasting so much money!

Life has a strange way of stopping you from doing something that you love. I have had a few spells off a bike over the years, and while frustrated at times, have just bitten the bullet and got on with it. My first independent mode of transport was a motorbike, that was in 1976. I rode exclusively for a few years then got a boyfriend, and a car and stopped riding. Well technically riding, I pillioned instead. I enjoyed that actually. Then back on a bike exclusively for several years, commuting 2 up (me riding). I rode daily almost right up until my first baby was born in 1987.

Having kids stopped me riding for several years. Funnily enough I did not mind, I was busy getting on with my life. We owned a bike shop, and my hubby rode off road, that kept us really busy.

I had a few weekend pillion rides when my "then" hubby got himself a tractor (I hated them) but that was all.

Fast forward a few years and I met a bloke that was right into bikes, he started riding, I bought a bike, we ride together.

I rode lots, still do when I can

I think the hardest off the bike spell was when I broke my ankle. Now that went on, and on, and on. It was 6 months off my Millie. Still nothing I could do about it, so, rego on hold and wait.

I am at the end of a wrist injury that has kept me off Millie for a couple of months. I am lucky my lovely man has a bike I can pillion on, so I have been able to still go out, Millie's rego is on hold again :stupid:

Look, just suck it up. If you can afford to keep your bike, keep it. Rego on hold, perhaps investigate a change in insurance cover to reflect you are not riding it, and get it settled mechanically for a period off the road. If you cant afford to keep it, sell it with good grace, you are living your reality. You have 2 options.

Fight it and be miserable, or...

Let it be, and get on with it...

Your call, and my 2/5/10 cents worth.
