Not that I'm up for it, but I saw it on trade me while wasting the last couple of hours at work. So, could you compete this in a class in NZ?
VTR1000 SP1 Basic Racer (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Sports-tourer/auction-33788443.htm)
Just noticed that it's got passenger peg brackets and what appears to be road tyres. Is someone taking the piss or are they just a de-loomed road bike with full fairing and no other trick bits? (other than what is stated on the auction?)
I remeber this model from Riding Spirits 2 (PS2).

Okay this link (http://www.rscycles.com/oem_parts/vtr1000.htm) provides most of my answers. Still seems like a bit of fun for only ten large. Could you compete it here?

Hey OAB, it is the geniunie SP base race bike, last time i saw it it was shod with supercorsas, it's not passenger brackets, just a plate bracket to mount the mufflers, kinda looks like it in the photo though. It's mint as and to my knowledge the owner only does track days on it and hasn't entered it in any races yet, good cheap bike (for a honda).
There are a few catagorys to race it in, like clubmans (any bike) or F1 (against GSXR1000's etc) prolly a few others you can compete in too.
But my 2 cents the bike is all good and well worth the coin. can't believe he's selling it actully hasn't ahd it for very long.

This should be able to clean up in pre 89 post classics. Anyone know about the history of this bike?

That is a shitload of bike for 10K. Put simply, it's not really competitive for any class. Unfortunate.
Farkin' whole heap of fun at the track for sod all money though.

Yip, spot on! Cool bike and good buy, but only if youre a committed track day enthusiast (or maybe own a crashed SP1)
Last time he had it advertised it seemed like he had swapped the Akrapovics for standard SP-1 mufflers, wonder if he's got them back? And suprise its not on slicks, but maybe it rains in Auckland?

That's what I was thinking, supposedly 136ps which wouldn't make it competitive in Formula 1. However for 10k one hell of track day bike.

Even probably be excellent for club level F1. I only rode Deanos old SP1 for a very short while but I'd have to say it was far superior to any Ducati I've ever had the misfortune of riding.

But one day I'll have on AND a GSXR-600...
