I have some Raptor titanium foot pegs on my Gas Gas TXT 125 and I need a couple of sticks of Titanium welding rods to build them up to stop them from drooping where they touch the frame. Made contact with a local welding supplies here in Tauranga, They informed me they only sell half a kilo at $300.

So thats why my welder has not got any! does any one know where I might get a small amount to get the job done?

you need special gas too I think?

There are a couple crowds in Chch that do it: Melrose build titanium race wheelchairs and can weld it. Also Air NZ engineering. bring money.

I have looked at getting a disc tab put on the rear triangle of my Ti mtb frame a few times.

ask them who they sell the half kg to. Wait outside the store and mug them as they leave.

Titanium welding is really tricky to get a perfect result because any contaminant can cause weld embrittlement. Joints need to be scrupulously clean (we used to use acetone), free of lint from cleaning cloths etc and the weld area flooded with high purity argon during welding and cool-down. In our pulp and paper mills, we only had a few boilermakers who would do the work but maybe it's not quite so hard on smaller jobs ) (Cue Pussy to come in and tell us how he was one of the few :2thumbsup)

As said above you will need argon for africa. Heavy purge over 100% of the part. Best way is to covert a sandblasting compartment into a argon bath. Easier to get someone else to do it.
I haven't welded it myself, the complexity of the setup has been enough to put me off. I would rather take the 300 bucks and get a cylinder fill than spend it on rods. If I did have a set up I would be charging a bit more than a box of beers for welding. Argon is expensive, especially if your purging everything
