..or...A Dragon in my pond.
Last night Jan received a text from the neighbours saying that there was a disturbance in our back yard.
As I headed out of the laundry door I heard scuttling and figured it was a Possum. The dog took off like it was one too.
Closer examination found a medium size Australian Green Tree Frog - around 100mm nose to tail nestled in the frangipani tree. I thought he may have even been the cause of the ruckus and went back inside.
This afternoon I was pottering around in the courtyard and all of a sudden there is activity coming my way in a hurry. Wha...the...
Around the corner of the house appears a medium size Water Dragon up on its rear legs, in full flight, doing that cartoon lost traction running sideways action, with the dog, also in a '4-wheel' drift across the patterned concrete, hot in pursuit.
The Lizard sees me, spots the gap and darts between the panes of the pool fence and dives straight to the bottom of the deep end.
The dog rounds the gate and launches into the pool after it, but he hasn't learned how to dive, so engages in destroyer-like tactics sweeping the last known co-ordinates from above.
I called off the dog and left a few ramps in the pool for the reptile to extract itself, but it wasn't going anywhere in a hurry.
By the time I decided it was time to evict it forcibly with the net it was a bit sluggish, but after a few minutes in the shrubs it scuttled away seemingly none the worse.
Beautiful creatures. Graceful swimmers too. There was an underwater chase scene that didn't make it to video.

The only new wildlife that has turned up here lately, is a mallard duck.:(
It has some nice colors on its head though.:msn-wink:

Ducky.
These events also neatly coincide with the acquisition of a trick new video camera and the larnin' of its switcheroos.
The slow mo capability will be handy for bike stuff.

If you ever learn the knack of taking photos of birds with a digital camera, let us know.
Trying to photograph birds that dont sit still is a real exercise in patience. :(

When we lived in western Sydney I was always fishing Water Dragons out of the horse troughs an chucking em' back in the scrub so they could do the mini croc' thing again the next day.
The horses wouldn't go near them, stinking hot day an they'd all be standing about,,,looking,,but not touching.
The wild life is the only thing I really miss about Oz now.
We had letter mark hawks living in a gum tree out the back and we always knew if they had young because they'd dive bomb you and then hover 30 foot above screaming at you if you didn't bugger off.
Had an 8 foot Black snake living under the covers of one of the worm farms,,he was pretty cool as he kept the browns away,,,an only scared the shite out of me a couple of times.
A flock of resident Magpies that would staunch our Cattledog pup off his food until the day came when a big pile of Magpie feathers appeared in the back yard, after which the magpies stopped coming around.
Fruit bats in the crab apple trees when they were in fruit.
Odd sort of thing to find in ya' back yard at night.
Hundreds of Mini frogs that would try to come in the house when it rained.
Who would'a thought frogs don't like rain ?

Fuuny enough I was reading some photographers tips the other day that said to bung em in the freezer for a bit before taking the photos.

We get a few moths that are the size of a small bat.
Agree about the bats too. Can'ts.

This was taken further north, Pity it damaged its wing when it came in and pretty much ruined the rest of its short life....

Very nice it is too. I looked at Sony and Panasonic offerings but the Canon ticked the boxes for my application best. Outstanding connectivity and 'run and gun'.
Plus new fruit to suit. Sony radio and Rode bayonet mics, a Manfrotto fluid head tripod and shoe mount light, battery and some gun SD cards.
I'm looking to take my bike vids to the next level.
The kit's first outing was for Heavy Duty. (I'm working on a KR vid now.)

About to pull the trigger on a new Nikon D800 and good glass as well - largely with video in mind too.
But for shoots where there is time to set up.
The Canon is good to go a few seconds after it comes out of the case. The mics take longer to set up.

Glad you cleared that up. For a minute I thought you meant you had a man-eating cunt.
