does anyone know if there is such a thing as an aftermarket regulator? according to my local dealers have to wait 3 weeks for a regulator for my 2009 Suzuki SFV 650 Gladius. Or maybe one for an older moddel SV is the same? thoughts please. Im desperate.

yes. try a search for electrosport.
also do a good internet search, often you can use the reg/rec off another model as a suitable upgrade, for example I recall trying to fix a hyosung for someone, and there had been alot of success using the mosfet type RR off an 07-08 R1 to fix the issue on the hyobags.
spend an hour or two perusing forums and trademe/ebay, you should find something suitable easily enough!
sorry I cant tell you what would suit your bike exactly though!

Thankyou. Do you know if an SV (older model) regulator would be compatible?

there are three aftermarket companies that sell reg/rec's in NZ that will be suitable eurobike, w white wholesale and R2. some will need some wiring changed as the plugs may not be the same, but this is a easy job, just need to connect the yellow wire to the yellow wire the red wire to the red wire etc. They have these in stock in NZ now delivery is usually overnight not three weeks away. I see you live on the shore so if the local Suzuki dealer won't play ball go to treads they will be able to get you a reg/rec. In the dealers defence they are getting it in the neck for the importers who are threating to take there dealerships off them if they don't use genuine parts. Chuck me a message if you need any more info.

then I found this thread about putting in a different RR . . .

On a Suzuki, I always go for after market ones with an extra wire. Latest model I had to mod was 2002 though, so they might have caught up with modern electrics by now.
Older ones didn't have a wire to the loom, to measure what is being regulated. So if the battery was accepting charge, (which they do when they're fucked or on their way whether they're full or not), the reg/rec would just keep feeding and feeding till they cooked.

eurobike reg part number DA REG35/3 REG 12v35A 420W 3 WIRE will be a good option for your bike. http://www.eurobike.co.nz/products/69-regulator_rectifiers/577-regulator_rectifiers.aspx will show you pictures of the different regulators.
