View Full Version : Begging, busking and waylaying the customers for money?

As the title says.

I was completely shocked over the weekend just gone, to see 3 kids, who had bailed up an elderly couple, begging money. I walked around their little "mob" with my eyes like saucers, and my jaw on the ground. Pretty little white kids, maybe 8-12 years of age, stopping pedestrians from walking and asking for money. FFS! What is that all about? I did not even see this as kids scabbing money to buy lollies, this was a determined pack, demanding money from old people. Horrible.

Busking, self explanatory, if it is good, you drop a coin, if it is bad, you don't. If it is terrible, you stand there enjoying and drop a coin. I don't have an issue with busking, easy to ignore if you want to.

Walking into the stupid market at the end of a long day at work and being harassed by a bunch of smiling, over zealous people wanting you to part with good value coin, to support some random event/team/charity/cause/business blah, blah, blah! Might have done that yesterday, yet you are still stopping me today! FUCK OFF!

How say you lot?

You need to get out more.

Common practice in the big smoke. I ignore it these days.

In what regard? I get out plenty.

I have buskers where I live, I have people that attempt to extract a dollar every time I go to the stupid market.

Begging, I don't have that. Not acceptable at all as far as I am concerned.

So, begging on the streets is ok? You are happy for that to be in your community?

Surely not? Surely not!

In the city I was visiting, it would have been more usual for it to have been Maori kids to be begging.

I don't actually care what fucken colour their skin was. Kids stopping people from walking up the road, demanding money is NOT ok at any time, or by anyone.

I've gone off charity in a big way, as I see it as self-perpetuating. Not so much the taking of it, but the need for the giving of it. It kinda belies the issue. Not just the kids askin for money, but that they need to get money to get stuff. It's been going on for decades and in this day and age is becoming the norm and will likely become more of a frequent occurrence. Just be glad that you don't live in India or Africa or South America etc... be happy that you live in NZ and that there's nothing wrong with the world.

She openly said she spent her benefit on beer and had no money left.

I flick the odd busker a coin or two,but everybody else gets told to FUCK OFF before they even get a word out.

Since I was told I didn't have to be so rude about it by some bludger with a bucket and a sweet little badge I've gotten even worse.

But pretty little white kids would be offered a suck of my cock first just in case they were serious about making 50c.

Welcome to the real world.

Chch bus exchange was bad for that when I was younger. "I need $2 to get home, help me out man."
"Sure, I'll pay for you, what bus you catching?"
"Nah just give me the $2 I'll sort it."

Sureeeee ;)

I did however pay for a bus ride for a dude who had his wallet stolen to get home for Christmas when I was in Serbia. Poor bastard was trying to trade me his lunch for it (it looked terrible as well which sucked cus I was really hungry).
But yeah you need to see/read about some more of the world if you think some annoying kids begging is bad.

On a work call-out one night, I was approached by an asian bloke, around 30ish, sharply dressed and immaculately groomed - after some coins "for food".

Coincidentally, only a block away from the casino...

Every now and then I'll pass a dollar or two to someone on the street that seems worse off than me. Who gives a fuck... I've had people help me out in the past and if once in a while my couple of bucks goes to someone who genuinely needs it then great. If I give a dollar to someone who used it to buy drugs or alcohol that's all good too (probably what I was gonna buy with it anyway). All up I kind of think it must suck to sit there with a sign asking for help with people just pretending you don't exist and walking by. If I've got a couple of bucks spare then I'll give it and if I've been scammed that's on me. That's the story I tell myself but if I was going to be totally honest....

At the end of the day I don't really care about poor people or kids going hungry or disadvantaged people in general. They can all basically fuck off but if I can give one of them (or someone pretending to be one of them...makes no difference to me) some loose change and then feel less guilty about not giving a shit about them for a while....sweet. I'll go without that second flat white or skip sushi that afternoon and go home for lunch instead. In summary, beggars and buskers provide an important service by being poor as they allow me to buy back a couple of dollars worth of guilt for not giving a shit about them in general.

we had this discussion in another thread. Me an my homies used to offer them jobs. All they had to do was turn up sober (not far from where they were hussling).
Total that did = 0.
I help those who want to help theyselves. The rest, get them to dance like a monkey then scatter a handful of change down the footpath.
