All's quiet on KB about SBW!
SBW was going to have spell (break) so was unavailable for the league world cup. (fair enough, his choice)
But is this the real reason why SBW has suddenly had a change of mind and become committed to being currently "busy" again?

His superior fitness and smarts won the NRL for the Roosters. In the final quarter he knew to fire up, and sought line breaks knowing defence was tiring. He deserves the Roosters player of the year award.
I know your a pugilist yourself Oldy, and probably critical of SBW as a boxer. Hes not the real deal there, but as no one else was around, he used his smarts, seized the opportunity and got the trophy.
boxing SBW is #1 in NZ but #93 in the world

Editor’s Note: The following article was written by Suzanne White, and it explores the Oxen personality, and, in particular, Oxes that are Leos. Barack Obama is a Leo/Ox: he was born on Aug. 4, 1961.
Leadership and dominion combine here to create an unforgettably forceful personality type. The tone of rapport with Leo/Oxen never feels quite intimate or cozy enough. One wonders if there is really a heart beating inside their dense rib cages or whether they are propelled by some remote control device in their garage. This assessment of the indifferent attitude that the Leo/Ox emanates is perhaps harsh, or may seem unfair. But the Leo/Ox is so austere in manner that it’s difficult not to imagine him as obdurately insensitive.
Leo/Oxen get places. They never cease pushing and advancing and arriving at goal upon goal despite hurdle after hurdle. We usually admire the Leo/Oxen that we meet and we cannot help but admit that they are amazing: strong, courageous and, most of all, effective. Leo/Oxen take the reins in every situation and when they are onto a project or idea, they never let up until they have mastered it.
These people are opportunists and do not hesitate before the dark wall of the devil. They plunge through fire and never flee conflict.
Normally, Leo/Oxen don’t talk very much. Around the house or office, they come off as strong but silent, even stodgy personages. It’s always obvious that Leo/Ox feels himself individual and separate from the group. And if he involves himself at all in any group endeavor or communion, he must have center stage, do all the talking, crack all the jokes and generally hold forth. Now, all of a sudden, in company with a captive audience, the Leo/Ox becomes gregarious. When he is listened to, the Leo/Ox is an orator, a performer, a fabulous synthesizer of information and a raconteur par excellence.
Leo/Oxen are “know-it-all” types and rarely let anyone get a word in edgewise when they speak. They are not too curious about others’ opinions or reflections on their views. The Leo/Ox is the personification of the Father Knows Best approach. He is the first and final judge of what is suitable and intelligent. If you have a different opinion, keep it. When there is a Leo/Ox in the room, everybody present is on his show. He is intransigently, tenaciously and arrogantly there. You are mere decoration.
The Leo/Ox character seeks permanence and longs for solidity in both personal and public ways. He is as earthy as they come and seems to need to sop up warmth from the outside, to hold on tight to love and marriage and dreams of home and family for dear life. Yes, he is successful and unbeatably strong. But it can get lonely inside that autocratic head. And the Leo/Ox needs somebody else to turn on the heat. He can build and make and do anything at all humanly possible — except simple tenderness. Expressions of affection are not given to the Leo/Ox, and when you get to know them well, you realize that what’s lacking weighs them down.
These people have great minds and good memories. In fact, they have trouble forgetting — and forgiving. Humility escapes them. If they goof, they don’t want it to show. Failure is not acceptable.. If someone near to their heart disappoints them, they don’t just pass it off as unfortunate or even sad. They take it as a personal affront to their dignity. And they cannot, will not, humble themselves to retrieve lost love.
Although this person is brilliant at order and runs a tight ship, his life will be missing a certain spontaneity. He prefers plans and schedules to the impromptu gathering or hurry-up picnic in the park. He’s rigidly concerned about his image and maintaining the same vis-a-vis his subjects. This, of course, cuts down on the Leo/Ox’s jolly times. He’s active and busy and energetic in the extreme. But the Leo/Ox is nonetheless ponderous and somehow, despite the velocity of his life, leadenly slow.

He's a bit different from the way we like our sports stars to be but he's perfectly entitled to live his life how he wants. With his range of talents, I don't blame him for wanting to try a shedload of stuff. Don't like the people he hangs out with though - Nasser and Mundine are head cases. Maybe the press should stop hanging on everything he does too - it's a bit like the Beckhams in the UK. the cult of celebrity

I believe in NZ they are. Look at how DC and Richie have been treated differently in the AB's which has ushered in a change of how players are managed.
The prima donna black caps of a few years ago that held the team to ransom and we are still suffering with excessive player power in that mess too.
In a NZ team it seems if you are good enough you can do what you like. No consequences.

SBW is a stunning athlete with stunning physical skills and unbeleivable spacial awareness. Spatial Awareness is one of the five intelligences, and SBW has it in spades - maybe one of the highest in that area.
Is he a shit boxer? He's never been really tested so who knows - I'd love to see him fight Parker - I think if Parker hits him SBW will lose. But he is very quick and with great spatial awareness, if he can stay out of trouble he may well win on points. I doubt he could knock out Parker. Remember when Mohammed Ali had no chance against George Foreman ? Biggest hitter in world boxing and Ali won ...
Should he be in the league team?
I think he said "I'm not available" and he should not have been allowed to change his mind ... on the other hand do we want to win the Rugby League World Cup again? Hell Yes - and we have a better chance with SBW in the team .. take your pick on this one ...

True!
It is better to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all ... I can still respect him as a rugby player (Union or league) and as a person if he quits boxing now!
His problem now is the media and the public expectation that he has built up ... they will want their pound of flesh!
Fuck them ... stick to what you are (really) good at SBW . "rugby"!

Well like it or lump it he is a creature of the media coupled with a staggering amount of ability.
You cant just hate him without hating the media that created him. If there is one thing I genuinely do respect him for its that he knows how to use the media to generate income or at least is smart enough to hire people to do that...
Of course we like our heros to be shy and reluctant ones. ie Dean Barker and Ed Hillary etc. We can't quite cope with a SBW...
As far as boxing goes - hmm - I dunno... SBW is built... and hes combat tested. He might not have the technical ability but more often combat sports come down to heart and one thing you have to say is that if SBW decides he wants it Parker will have to knock him down (repeatedly) to stop him and that might not be that easy.
Personally I dont want to see them fight. I'd hate Parkers career to be ruined because of a lucky punch in a vanity fight.

I certainly didn't. And SBW would be on the floor quicker than Cameron was. And I suspect he knows it. Parker has the fastest hands of any heavyweight boxer I've ever seen, and is now developing the power to go with it. Game over.

I didnt pick Cameron/Tua because I think it could have gone either way. Cameron on his day is a real heavy hitter, but Tua can (and has) taken big hits. In the end it was very one sided though.
I did pick Parker/Botha though.
I saw Parker fight last year (and was introduced to him). Nice young lad and he knocked out some numpty thirty seconds in to the first round. I felt the thud through the ring and the floor. He's tall and quick and young. He could go far.
SBW would be insane to take him on. Which of course is what Lonergan was banking on. Its a no-lose for Parker.

Ya'll seem to think I am backing SBW in a fight with Parker .. let me make this very clear
1 Until the fight none of us really know who will win.
2 If Parker hits SBW just once it will be all over - he has quick hands and is a very big hitter ...
3 SBW has amazing spatial awarensss and very quick reactions - fast dodges and quick hands ... if he does not get hit then he has a very good chance of winning on points
When Ali fought Foreman the big hitter was going to take out Ali - never happened ...
In a Parker/SBW fight I do not know who I would put money on for an outright win ... I'd probably put money on Parker to win by KO and SBW to win by points ...
And yeah .. I do hope we get to see such a fight - I'd really like to see that one ...

Never watched a full game of union in my life
The last Test against South Africa is (IMHO) the best game of rugby union I have ever seen!
If you see that and don't enjoy it stick with league, union doesn't get any better than that!
Both games have evolved a lot over recent years.
I tried playing league in my teens, did not enjoy it, too repetitive, rugby back then was very boring for backs most of the time, so I became a loose forward.
SBW is a nice guy and superb physical specimen but despite high hopes (mine mainly) he does not posses natural boxing acumen under pressure.
He was a lucky survivor (intervention prevailed) from his last exposure and should stick to what he is good at, "rugby" union or league, take your pick!
I suspect SBW was motivated to being available for the cup squad to avoid having free time for the "Lonergan inspired" boxing title challenge!
If that is true, IMHO it was the right decision in every respect except for the player who was picked and dropped but unfortunately shit happens!
The power position has moved back towards SBW since the eye injury to Parker last night, Lonergan might have ended up with egg on his face! :corn:

just read that this SBW character has said he is not coming back to Rugby, Thank Fuk For That! now rugby teams can get on with the game and not worry about getting sidelined for the sake of a glory hound.

Sevens haven't needed him, Chiefs didn't need him and All Blacks haven't needed him ... he (SBW) needs them more than they need him!
Boxing doesn't need him either .... so why all the fuss? ... Oh, I forgot, it's the "media that need him most"! :jerry:

Face it Oldy, hes a game breaker, a champions maker, a title winner.
Everyone who wants to win the competition, wants him on their side.
Thats why hes worth mega-bucks, and the media is just reporting the hype, not making it up.
Oh, and your missus reckons hes hot and calls out his name at night

Funny, I can't remember any amazing title winning games he played for the AB's.
There has been some good games, offset with some mediocre and some very woeful defense.
He's a good player but another will be along soon for the media to try and sell advertising space.
But good luck to him hope he finds what he's looking for.

I think maybe everyone is giving SBW a little too much credit in the cranial department. While his 'spacial awareness' might be second to none, the rest of his, errr, mental capacity could be a little deferred. The word on the paddock is that that Koder Nasser does most of his decision making for him.

So a dumb cunt that can lift heavy stuff with a good manager is a bad thing ?
I guess a lot of people probably would be happy if he was just another black cunt working for paper chase and living in a state house in Otara.
All those people,,,,,,,,jealous much ?

Its a job. Period. He contracts himself to whatever suits him best at a given time. We get a bit hung up on sportsmen in NZ and at the end of the day they are "Professional Sportsmen". It is totally self serving IMO but fucken beats flipping burgers no doubt!

So ??? He's not employed for his cognative intelligence ... there's no spectator sport value in live televised philosophy ...

Except that when most businesses miss the deadline for submission of bids, they don't get the job.

I don't give a fuck. He can take some blame, he played it for the media attention, being the whore that he is. It's also why I originally said "fuck the selectors" too.
He had every opportunity to ask all the questions he wanted before the close off date. I thought it was a team sport. The selfish cunt is definitely not a team player. Fuck him.
One day I might tell you how I really feel about it.

Did y'all catch the wasted try against Samoa (League WC) show boating and pissing about instead of grounding the ball asap? :weird:
Well he is not the only one to piss about like that but at least that stupidity will get more ridicule through him and hopefully stop FFS!

...there did seem to be a lack of urgency in putting the ball on the ground, which is the essence of the game...and why you are hired...
