Transit and Hiace vans hold their value big time. Even with 200k+ on the clock you're still going to be at 5 figures, maybe 4 figures if it's an old model with low mileage. $4k and you're probably old AND 300k (if not more) on the clock.

Get a different van (L200 or something) and it will be cheaper.

I reckon the vans are probably more expensive than utes...

I got a liteace 4wd set up with front wheel holder and strap hoops etc. New warrant last week and have owned for the last 6years.
New front tires and brakes and wheel alignment 500km ago.
Rear seats fold up to sides so can be used as 4 seater transport also.
Have middle seats stored.
Auto 2 litre petrol. 190km
Originally purchased to transport fzr1000 race bike.

Bad
Oil light has been on for 5 years and paint has clear coat failure on roof and front.

At 3k idd sell it and replace with a small car.

Oh, one other thing, think about what bikes you're transporting. You seem to have it nailed, with wanting a mid/hi roof. If I was doing trackdays I would have gone for a mid roof hiace or similar, but the mid roof is the absolute minimum height I could get away with, as the BMW is around 1.6m tall.

Having seen vans get blown sideways on the harbour bridge, I went for a ute instead...

Ive owned lwb merc sprinters, transits, ivecos but all in the uk. availability of parts there is easy and generally a lot cheaper so seeking the word from the locals so to speak.

If you compare the price of Mondeos from here and there, you'll see why my "helpful" post thinks you may be slightly optimistic with your four grand desire.

I bought a Nissan Serena with the intention of pulling the seats out but alas I have not figured out how to do it. It's 2 mtrs in the back but not particularly high. I worked out we could get a couple of trail bikes in it sans seats. Squished mind you.
If you can figure out how to get the seats out they are cheap but go for the SR20DE motor & keep the cooling system flushed. If it's an option of course.
