If you look at some of my previous posts, my GN125 recently got written off. I'm going to be given enough money for the bus ride home from the insurance company, so I'm trying to see the glass as half full and looking for a slight upgrade.
I'm looking for anything up to 250cc which is a reliable and economical. That's the main concern. I'd rather it be a naked street bike (although not so big on cruisers), but I'm open to anything which can commute 5kms and back daily for a couple of dollars and as few problems as possible. I'm pretty flexible, so if you have anything you think might fit this description feel free to send me a message. Thanks.

Hi,
If you're interested I'm going to be looking at selling my 2004 Suzuki GSX 'INVADER' 250 to upgrade very shortly. I'll be asking 2.5k, milegae is a little high, I think last time I checked 60,000k's but it's an excellent runner (currently using it to commute roughly 100k's a day). It's in excellent condition, never been droped or damaged, has very slight amounts of usual wear and tear but nothing really noticable. It's a great little bike for splitting through traffic yet not small enough as to stop a taller person riding it confortably (I'm 6'2").
If you're interested feel free to flick me an email at hconnolly@omegais.co.nz and I can send you through some more details pics etc. The trademe link below has a pic of the bike, mine is exactly the same colours and all.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. That does indeed sound like something I'd be interested in. The other party's insurance company has temporarily changed their mind, so it may take a while to sort out. If everything works out in my favour, then I will send you a message. Thanks for the offer.

5K's per day each way? 10k total?
Seriously, get a Push Bike.
By the time you put on your Trousers, boots, Jacket, helmet, Gloves, drag the bike out of the shed and warm it up, you are half way there on the Push bike.
Then by the time you take off all your gear you are well and truly there on the push bike.....
Best bit is it costs nothing in Fuel, Licence (rego), Maintenance, and you could even improve your fitness.
Motorcycle commuting should be for distances greater than 30k's each way, otherwise you will wreck them. They hate short trips.

I've been doing that for the past 2 weeks since my bike has been out of commission. It's actually quite enjoyable, except for a few very steep hills. But I don't really like having to take around a spare change of clothes, towel and shower gel, and taking time to head to showers before going about my business. It's nice in the current weather, but I'd much rather have a 10 minute ride with a full face helmet through the rain than being blown around on a flimsy bicycle for 30.

?? Takes you 30 minutes to ride 5k?
You would hardly need a change of clothes then....
That is 10km/hr average.... many people run faster than that.

112000k is clearly not all to work and back for you.... unless you have been doing it every work day for 50 years since the bike was new.... ;)
Point still stands, if one were to carry out a short trip every day it puts more wear and tear on the bike than it is worth.

There's a combination of me understating slightly the distance (google maps says 6.9kms, not 5), and not knowing exactly how long it takes, I haven't timed it. But I probably do run faster on a flat then I do biking up the hills I have to go up. I'm in the defence force too, and not a couch potato by any stretch.

Ah ha, I think I know the banks you are talking about climbing then...... ;)
Still, Free shower too....
All this said I have driven my ute to work most days this winter lol.
I ride further at lunch time for fun that most people drive home though......
