Anyone got a wiring diagram for a Katana 250 ? or just as good knowledge of the regulator connections ?

I have a Kat 250 regulator which I wont to hook up on an RG150. The Kat regulator is 6 wire and the RG 5-wire, so both have a 3 phase alternator and a battery output but the Kat regulator also has an orange/blk wire not present on the RG's reg. I assume (makes an ass of u and me) that this is either the battery sense or a dash low volts indicator. But which ? or is it something else ?
The regulator runs a high voltage with it disconnected (15-30v) and low(4-5v) with it connected to batt+ so i'm a bit puzzled.

Anyone know what orange/black is on suzuki regs ?

Cheers,
P

Heres a guess... Thats all it is with out seeing a wireing diagram...
The Kat has a electric starter ?... The extra wire may be for AC current..
Used for the start button. As you can't run DC current from the
battrey though the starter button or it will burn out , they are to
small to handle DC amps for any length of time...
The kat would have had a diode in the system as you can't have
AC & DC current in contact with each other...

So what yer normaly have is DC + from the battrey to one side of the starter relay
with AC - from the start button to the other side with a diode link wire between them..

So, the wire is supposed to be +12v and I have determined the regulator to be faulty due to the crazy insane voltages and currents output !

six wire reg/recs have the extra wire connected to a switched + wire (ie hot wire for the rear brake light switch is usually a good connection point as it is close to the reg/rec) so 12 volts as you have already done but if you leave it connected to the battery permanently it will flatten the battery as they is a small constant draw from this circuit. As the reg/rec you have is giving strange charge voltages I would say it is stuffed as you have already surmised. Go to your local bike shop or online and get a aftermarket unit as this will be the cheapest option.

Swallow the lump of fear and go ask Katman! He will know and I'm sure he'd be happy to point you in the right direction.
