I'm helping a mate with a special project, and need a brake rod, at least 300mm long with two bearing ends to take 6mm bolts.
I'll be tweaking it to suit and rethreading, but am struggling to get the bits since I changed jobs. Time is at a premiuim and restricts my hunting for one as I work 12 hour days in Auckland but come home weekends.
Anyone got something they think may fit the bill for me to modify. I'm really stuffed as I lost the original and it's nearly time to fit it.
Cheers, Kinger.
Ignore price and location, the ad format makes life harder than it needs to be.

I am a bit confused by your post are you looking for a Drum brake rod or an anchor for a disk caliper.
Any workshop will have some rose joints heim joints left and right threaded, and some alloy tube.

I'm looking for an actuating rod for a hydraulic brake. Runs from the pedal to the rear brake cylinder via a pivot at each end. Looks exactly like the rod that runs from the gear change lever to the gearbox splined shaft.

300mm long that 12inchs or a foot, its a blood cruiser in't it.
Same scenario anyway as the stuff i posted anyway.

Rod end/rose/heim joints vary hugely in price I have found. I get mine (only 4mm hole size in my stock sorry) from http://www.bearingandengineering.co.nz/ but I don't think they are listed on site yet.
Brake rod over that length, you really want to go internally threaded tube with male rod-ends so it'll take more compression without bowing.

Try talking to Olly, he has started this thread in the bucket forum and has made custom length gear linkages for me in the past.

Last rose joints I got cost me a little over $5 each, but with a list of $20 each
They were 6mm, I didn't want to know what the list on the 20mm ones was...

All sorted.
Had some 1/4 ones available for just under ten bucks each, but nipped to Saeco for metric.
Cost about 14 bucks each, but that was thanks to a cool salesman who gave me work discount from their original thirty bucks apiece! Really struggle to see how the shelf price could be justified.
Rod came from a mate of a mate at South Auckland Engineering in Manukau. Cheers Phil.
Cheers for the positive inputs blokes.
