Hey everyone,
I am currently in the process of purchasing a new motorcycle but unsure of what exactly to purchase to fit my needs. I am roughly 6 ' 1 and weight about 75-80kgs, i have previously owned a KX 85 when i was younger but sold it and now being 18 years i have reignited the eagerness for trail riding. I would rate my riding ability at beginner - intermediate. . So i would like a dirt bike with more power obviously, but seeking advice as to what bike would be suitable for me. I would probably only use it around 3-4 hours a week, so any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks A lot

Would you like to ride it on road to get to the trails? If so my unbiased opinion would be the WR250r... Not road legal maybe the WRF or YZF, you want blue . I had a Kawai 80 when I was a kid and just got back into riding, got the Wr250r and I'm loving the bike, long service intervals, but not the full power of the WRF or YZF.

Hahaha, thanks for the advise to go blue. Yeah i wouldn't be needing the bike to get to trials so would probably go for a YZF or possibly a KXF, depending on Trademe auctions and their pricing. If i was to ride the bike as often as stated in my first comment - 3-4 hours a week - how often would i have to take it to get serviced (Keep in mind i wouldnt be thrashing the bike).
Thanks for your advice!!!
Cheers

I am thinking of purchasing either a rm125 or yz125. What are your thoughts on it? If i was to ride it around home, and on the road would it be too loud for neighbours to manage?
Thanks

if these are old school 2smokers then yes the neighbours will get pretty pissed off and the other thing is you will outgrow then pretty quick, better off gettin a 2fiddy

Yeah, was thinking they were a bit too loud for the neighbours to endure. Are there any recommendations on 4-stroke 250 dirtbikes or does it just come down to personal preference? and what do you believe is the earliest year to purchase without the bike being unreliable?
Thanks

What do you reckon about this bike? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/dirt-bikes/auction-655619488.htm

You can't go too far wrong if you pick up a tidy KDX200. Or are you looking for something a bit more mental than that?

Would you recommend the KDX200 over say a YZ125, because i have come across thishttp://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/dirt-bikes/auction-655235531.htm

Give it a whirl to see for yourself man.
I'm about your size and weight and find 125's a bit lacking, particularly on the hills on power and also size wise it feels a bit small physically/proportionally.
Easy to pick up though lol.
Granted I haven't ridden that particular model, so take that opinion with a grain of salt.

Cheers for the response. Yeah i need to get on a 125 2 stroke to see if i am comfortable and what not on them. What do you reckon is the earliest model to purchase before the bike is unreliable?
Thanks

How long is a piece of string? haha
As a rule you want to go for the last year of any generation as they have usually ironed out the kinks by then, but you really have to look into each model and it depends on who you're buying from and how they look after their toys.
You'll find weak points on any vehicle too though, along with strengths, so don't be put off by every bad thing you might read about a model otherwise you'll never buy anything XD
If you don't want to take your time and look into it all yourself, just buy from a dealer and get a warranty. A good one will help you find the right bike too rather than just sell you what they have.

had to look at that more than once, $4000 for a 125cc bike thats nearly 5 yr old, better off on somethin bigger unless you are just flat tracking

i just dont want to get a 2 stroke 250 because i dont think i will be able to handle the power otherwise i would. I was thinking that the 125 would be perfect size as it still has a good amount of power, and is rather light.
