I've got a Beltronics RX65 Pro. Can anyone recommend a cheap(ish) solution on eBay? I've looked on there but either I'm searching for the wrong keywords, or they don't have many options. A visual and/or audio alert is what I'm after, as my earphones are a bit uncomfortable under my lid. I have looked at Radar Direct, but those prices are laughably expensive.

Can I suggest an earpiece from Dick Smith-remove microphone from ear moulding and discard moulding and hotglue/ tape in a comfortable place in your helmet.-reliable and cheap-downsides are the cord flapping in the breeze.

But it works and it works well.

Price of ticket Vs cost to do it properly.

Only down side is it is no good at night.

I gave up on an earpiece - was always moving around and either disconnecting the cord or breaking it when I got off the bike! I didn't want to go for a HARD and run the risk of flattening the HARD battery by leaving it accidentally switched on. Besides, the brain reacts slower to a visual cue than an audible one, but can't say by how great a margin. I went to a commercial screamer and have used it for about 6 years now - still impressed with it. Two loudness settings and a mute. All I can say is that you'll hear the loudest setting ok with a LOT of wind noise

Here's the link to where I bought mine from in the USA: http://www.motorcycleradar.com/radar_screamer.htm. I had it mounted on the top yoke on the Blackbird (to the right of the headstock in the photo) but have it mounted behind the twin headlights on the Street Triple. KB moderator Jantar built his own from the internals of a smoke alarm and a few other bits and pieces.

Hope that helps,

Geoff

No, you only get one tone but in reality, does it matter? If you haven't reacted before figuring out what's got you, it's probably too late! Even when I had the earpiece, I always reacted first and ironically, on a lot of occasions, I'd be below the speed limit anyway! I know that radar detector/jammer discussions have been done to death on previous posts but at best, they're only an aid. I fitted mine for the Southern Cross round NZ endurance ride. It wasn't for going at warp speed but for the occasions when doing rapid overtakes not all that far above the speed limit, just trying to keep up good steady progress for long periods with a reduced risk of getting pinged. I know it might sound daft on the face of it but since fitting the detector, it's actually kept my speed down and if it ever crapped out, I wouldn't bother to replace it.
