My lifetime licence did not click over when changed to a photo licence.Hence last christmas i was stopped by a cool cop who let me off but told me to get it sorted, easier said than done.At 55 i have gone back to the begining for 2 years and now up to my restricted. My question is does anybody know what will happen if i get caught on my Harley softail with the licence i have now.I expect a fine which i can live with but demerit points or anything else??? cheers

You're exceeding your licence conditions. I struggled to find the right page on NZTA website, but from memory, it's a $400 fine and 25 or 35 demerits.

You can then also be forbidden to ride it (on the road side) and if you think you're smart enough to wait half an hour then ride away and get caught... well... it gets a lot worse from there...

edit: 35 demerits according to this: http://www.nzta.govt.nz/licence/offences-penalties/demerit.html#licence

A CBT type scheme is coming in, in 2014, but you'd need to check on the details (thread elsewhere, I think it's for learners first).

Re forbidden... NZTA

What happens if I drive before my licence has been reinstated?
Driving while unlicensed is a serious offence carrying substantial penalties and if you do, you could be fined and forbidden to drive. If you drive while forbidden, you will be disqualified and either fined or imprisoned. Any vehicle you drive will be impounded whether it is yours or not. If you drive before your licence has been reinstated and you have an accident, any insurance claim that you make may be invalid.

Your insurance will probably be void if you have an accident on a bike outside your licence restrictions too.

Breach of licence conditions is now $100 and 35 points.

Also, you get forbidden from riding until you comply with the rules. Like, until you qualify to ride the Harley.

Lesson is to keep your licence current, as once they lapse it just gets to be a pain in the butt.

Donuts.

Whaydaminit.

Are you saying that if one gets pulled on up on one's restricted, on (say) a thou, one is forbidden from riding until one is eligible to sit one's full?

With all the 'arrest you on the spot if you do drive' shiz that goes with being forbidden to drive?

I was bit grey on Forbidden to Drive, but essentially, there's a lot of pieces within it, basically depending on why exactly you're being forbidden (breach of licence, drunk etc)

This link should assist licence wise: http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1998/0110/latest/DLM2611494.html?search=sw_096be8ed80c777cb_forbid_ 25_se&p=1&sr=2
