Hi - new user to this forum and first time motorbike owner as of less than a week ago ('93 Suzuki FXR150). I'm relatively handy with a spanner working on cars but bikes are completely new to me.

I'm having issues with the electric start on the bike, which I'm fairly certain are due to the battery not fully charging. Here is what I know:

-Electric start will usually turn over but seldom has enough juice to start the engine.
-After a long ride I can usually get 1 electric start out of it.
-Previous owner told me the battery was new, which it does look like.
-With the bike idling I get about 10 Volts across the battery terminals, with the revs up a little bit it sits nicely on 12.5 Volts.

Where do I go from here? It's not the end of the world if I have to kick start it every time, but i'd like the electric start to work.

Thanks in advance :)

Shoot over to www.fxr150.co.nz and grab the workshop manual. Then you should have some voltage figures to look at in the charging system. I suspect that is where you will find the problem.

Either that or the battery is rooted. Possible if it has been sitting a while.

Now you mention it the year does seem a little premature.

My bad sorry, I meant 2003 :argh:

Cheers I'll have a look for the workshop manual.

Looks like either the battery is dead and pulling the charge voltage down or the charging system is shot.
You should get around 14V with it pulling reasonable revs.
Enough of these have been turned into total loss for buckets that there should be enough rec/regs and stators floating around.
