Uplifting a bike from Customs?

Has anyone collected a bike they've imported from Auckland customs . Mine is on its way from London , still on UK plates , I take it I will have to van it down to Cambridge , get it WOFed and registered . Then I can ride it on NZ roads . Anyone out there who has experience of this or Officers of the Law , comments would be appeciated
