Im curious ,...... I was on a fundraiser ride on the weekend and there was several riders wearing the same badge "Brotherhood Bikers"

Looking at their website .... which doesn't tell me too much they seem a legit social group.

Anyone tell me more ?? ...... I'm interested and curious.

We have a mx bunch down here called band of brothers. They are a Christian based group. I would say it prob would be along the same lines at a guess

kevie
24th November 2013, 18:18
A couple of them also had "christian styled badges" so may be them, altho no mention of any spiritual affiliation on their site.

Sounds like just another of those groups of riders who express their individuality by wearing a uniform with patches attached. Harley Krishnas come in several varieties.

they werent "patched" in the sense we regard patches ..... they had a small 'badge' in the chest and appeared a pretty cool bunch of guys

Did they have that 'Jesus loves me' sparkle in their eyes?

I wonder if they ride with care for others or just hammer it knowing they are going to a better place if it turns to custard .........

A patch with a skull and crossbones and a commitment to "old school" values. Hmmm.

Nothing more old school than a pirate hitch....

Hey more power to them - they organise the toy run which is great. I'm just not into the whole sargent at arms thing... Actually - I'm probably just not very social really ;-)

I had a chat with one of the greybeards on the toy run this weekend. They seem like a decent lot. He said that the Brotherhood Bikers initially formed in Wellington out of the Harley Owners Group, and was first affiliated with an American organisation of the same name. They are now a standalone outfit, and welcome riders on any machine (although to be honest I think you'd be a bit out of place on a sprots bike with leather any colour other than black). The charter and rules etc were because the club had charitable organisation status, although have subsequently been deregistered.

I think old school (biker) values sums them up quite well from an outsiders point of view. Good on them for 'organising' the (un-official) toy run. It was a nice ride and good to see a big stack of toys for the kids at the end of the day.

I'm just not into the whole sargent at arms thing...

I had three patched guys turn up one day. The patch turned out to be for a christian 'gang'.

They were playing the part right down to the German style helmet and the 1% badge.

Still can't quite get my head around that one.

Heh, that reminds me of the Monty Python sketch about Hell's Grannies.

The brotherhood used to be a gang of animals associated with the highway 61,s back in the 80,s. Based in Glenfield. There were some right animals amongst them, cheap beer though.:2thumbsup

Just because and organisation organises a toy run or similar event, doesn't make them Good Buggers in my eyes. For example Hells Angels does a lot of "community work" in places where it has chapters. That is nothing more than a cynical attention grab to curry favour with people who may otherwise think they're just a bunch of drug-dealing, thieving, violent, psychopathic, women-hating thugs.

That's a fair call. I suspect that there are good and bad amongst their members as with any other group of people. "We do not discriminate against Race, Age, Gender, Religion, Orientation, what make of bike you ride or what ever side of the fence you sit on" seems like a good start though.

Perhaps they do perpetuate some of the old biker stereotypes, however most of the riders I meet are middle-class, not-quite-middle-age, white-collar professionals who reinforce a stereotype all of their own (M.L.C.). I'm sure there's room for all types on the road, and I would hope that organised Motorcycle Clubs attract at least a small handful of people who might otherwise get involved in the less scrupulous biker thug gangs.

*The Brotherhood* aren't a 1% type of thing Hitch. AS mentioned...they started out as a breakaway group from the Wellington HOG Chapter.

I recently got an email from a guy I used to work with in the USA, among other things he wrote about the Hell's Angels having an intellectual property lawyer who's taken various people to court over infringments about H A branding.

Over the last 7 years he's put 12 cases through the courts. It seems the outlaws are much more inlaws these days.

well ... I went to the "RIDES IN DA PARK" event in Hamilton on the weekend (wont mentioned it got a tad rained out) BUT >>>>>>>>> there were several members of Brotherhood Bikers there and got to have a cool chat to them, they are a SMC (Social Motorcycle Club) and an awesome bunch of guys (and gals) :) been looking on the net too ..... and they are worldwide by the looks of it, the Waikato chapter is fairly new.
I like the fact they have rules and values to adhere to keeps the group on track I recon, and nothing wrong with "old school values" NZ society needs more of that and a lot less of the PC crap I recon.

The brotherhood President, used to be the organiser/president/ of the local hog group, they (married couple) formed the 'original' brotherhood group after being replaced in the hog group... Guess some people have a 'need' to belong.

Everyone seems a bit too worried about what other bikers / motorcyclists (or whatever) may or may not stand for and may or may not be doing and may or may not think. If they're not hurting anyone or doing anything (too) illegal, isn't there room for all of us?

We moan at them for all looking the same and having rules, and yet the reason we moan, is because they don't conform to what we think is right (ie: our rules!)

Just my (?worthless) opinion.....

Umm not necessarily. Other clubs have a president, secretary, treasurer, and a whole lot of other positions that either are not bothered to be filled or are but are only for ceremony.

Actually ...... they are a legitimate 99% club, and as far as road captains go ..... all the clubs I have belonged to have had one, a member appointed to screen proposed rides to see if they have any hazard or problems, just the ones I have been in didn't have a badge to say so ... but they were there.

In today's environment with the PC brigade snapping at the heals of every organized event in the country there needs to be checks and controls in place.
