All systems go for the first round of the NI champs.
Practice and probably qualifying on Sat and racing on Sunday.
Camping at the track included in your exorbitant entry fees, which I can't be sure of off the top of my head. But $40 entry, $20 transponder hire (if you need one) and $20 day licence if you need one sounds close.

Friday camping is available, if you get there and the gate is locked come and find one of the usual suspects to unlock the gate, or take your pick of campsites if you are more organised than us and beat us there.

For those that haven't been before this is an unbelievably cool track and not a bad place to spend a weekend camping.
Water and toilets are available and if anyone is able to bring a BBQ for communal abuse it would be appreciated.

See you there

Oh if anyone is bringing a sidecar say the word so the other wheelbarrow teams can get keen.

Don't you be saying things that are going to upset my religious sensibilities now.

Never sure if I prefer Toke for the track or Taumarunui because it may as well be set in a DOC campground. Good thing I don't have to choose between them.

I asked if they had one we could use. This is the response I got.

Yes we have one of those huge catering ones. Can cook about 500 sausages at a time on it. Its new and only used once or twice. Youre welcome to use it. I can't guarantee it will be clean as a couple of younger girls did our last BBQ but if youre going to use it woulld appreciate it being left clean.

I said we would use our own gas, so now we just need to organise that and an OCD type to clean it properly afterwards.

Ok; We can bring up a bottle; and BBQ cleaning equipment.
I'm not OCD (much); But I can rally the troops and ensure it is returned better than we got it....

Should we all chip (mandatory) in $10-15 bucks at sign in; to ensure you know how many you are buying for...
Bread/Sauce/green sh!t/hashbrowns/non-cow meat products....

Now all we need is to find a Coffee express van/trailer in Toke and suggest they pop out Sunday morning... :innocent:

No need to get that organised.
We can do a quick survey on Saturday afternoon and see what we need in the way of salads and garlic bread.
As tempting as it is to throw my coffee machine in I'm going to leave it at home. I have got a reasonable sized plunger in the van if you need to use it.

I'm quite keen to not turn the Bucket Xmas party into a fully catered affair, we don't need more stuff to organise on top of the meeting itself.

I find the 3 days rain forecast on metservice is pretty good if you know how to read between the lines:
http://www.metservice.com/maps-radar/rain-forecast/rain-forecast-3-day

By the looks of it Sunday will be fairly decent for weather with the high winds in places likely to help it clear up.
I have faith in Saturday afternoon to evening being good for weather too but I'm curious as to how long the track will be open for.

Hi all first race Rich got second I got third with the fastest lap of that race (I put that in to make myself feel better). Good racing though. Rich did take to the grass for the sprint to the line.
I had some problems with my bike. The new spark plug snapped in half and poped out on the first lap of the day. I put another plug in but forgot to turn the petrol no again so ran out on the trial lap. I thought it was all over for that bike. The 50 got a bit of a work out. I thought I would check the plug on the FXRS again to notice the petrol was off. Turned it on and went out for qualifying. Felt weird after the 50. Got 3rd on the grid. Top 5 were real close in time. First race OK. second race I over shifted and it locked in 3rd. Pulled in and took the engine out to fix it. I see my over shift is still in the old crank cases. Got the bike going as it started to rain. on with the wets for both bikes. Out to do the third race. I thought the rainbow were petrol although after I went through it and fell off it was confirmed it was oil. Bummer. the rest of racing called off. Drove home to getting a ticket on the way. Bugger.
Hope everyone else got home OK.
Good fun.

More importantly

A Big Thanks to Steve and the AMCC team, for all your hard work.
And the Tokoroa Kart Club for the continued support and access to the facility.

Another great event; this series is so much fun on and off the track.

On the racing side of things, personally I had a great day battling it out with Chris C at the back end of a grade; a little bit of paint swapping and tire rubbing made for a great day (one a piece).
Really good after sorting out battery issues (and hour finding my contact lens in the long grass)'on Saturday.

#############################################
Final rules were made late Saturday night on the Regional Challenge.
Top two from A grade and Top one from B grade (total combined points).

Unofficial Regional Challenge Results (my rough calculations; I'm sure I'll be corrected).

Mighty Manawatu - only just
Wellington
Auckland
Bay of Plenty

Including the b grade results as well will make it interesting.
So put some pressure on your local b graders to come to the events and get involved, they will have a ball.

Thats to Steve and the AMCC peeps.

Fantastic effort.

I had a great time. On saturday I was quite happy scrap back into the 42 second laps. Just! By sunday though I had left half a second at the bottom of a Tuatra bottle or 3. Never mind. Race one was a classic. Regan got the start (what a surprise, NOT). I managed to hold out Andrew in turn one then away we went. Little bit of a rub here and there. I just could not line a good move up on regan and hope to hold out andrew. On the run to the line I jumped the curb and straight lined the grass. Almost getting there. It would not have counted but it was a bit of fun.

I won't talk about race 2. You can watch it for yourself. I am the king of starts. You know this I am sure.

Not sure Ken knows what happened to his bike either. I spoke to him as he had taken the clutch cable off to give to Rick (who had borrowed Brian's one by then) and Ken said he had pulled in going okay, but she just wouldn't start next time round. Great fun as usual. Many thanks to Auckland crowd for putting this on, with Steve directing traffic.

Got some terrible footage of the first B-Grade race, water got in front of the lens and made it look like the race was run in low mist! Watchable, but I don't think I will post it unless someone gets excited enough to ask...

My other footage is with Bert, and hope it is a bit more presentable, should be two A-Grade races from the Grandstand with luck.

Looking forward to Taumauranui, hopefully the weather will play ball, expect to bring the family to that one.

Big thumbs up to all concerned. :2thumbsup

Great racing Bert, had great fun battling it out even if it was for last? place in A grade :scooter: I definitely learnt a few things!
Solid video Richban, I'll put up some photos the old man took soon

Really good after sorting out battery issues.

I did suggest that there was a possible bad joint or something in the battery as I walked round, and then was having a chat to Dave and said how I was finally starting to trust my instincts.

Yip. You were right on the money. :niceone:
I just couldn't believe it was the brand new battery that was the issue.

Whole lot more fun not chasing two stroke issues on race day (and returning home with a broken bike)..
Able to actually concentrate on racing produced ~ 4 second improvement from last year.
So quite happy with that (even though I got lapped by the front runners in A grade).

Took a while to figure out how the new camera works (and how to convert to a smaller file; hillbillie bandwidth issues)...

And race 2

Interesting overtaking lapped rider issue on second to last lap at the bottom of the hill.
Not quite sure if it warranted the arm waving now I've seen it on video...

Jolly good weekend.

To make you (and I) feel better, look at the times on practice 2, both Brian and AndrewA were slower than us lol :)

at least you were riding and having fun, and it was the first race since January this year. Ai've had a couple of fun races this latter part of the year, and know I am not really any faster on my 150 compared to my 100, hence me taking the 100 along, she is so much fun to ride lol

thanks heaps Tim for putting up the timing, hopefully someone comes up with an easy way of doing it, so it's not such an issue for you.

Jolly good weekend.

which race was that in? I thought Regan got held up a bit by some back markers (Bert and Chris) where the gap closed up between Rick and him in race two. I also know that's not what you're talking about, and the discussion I had, was that it was totally unnecessary (the arm waving).

Arm waving? I was trying to shake a stone out of my glove.
I don't think too many riders would enjoy having their brake lever collected ...

Its all good in love and war (and the heat of the battle on track). that is where it has to stay though.
you can just run out of room on these little tracks and some are not always aware of their lines will affect the ones trying to overtake.

in this case maybe the speed differential between the top and bottom end of the field was a little bigger than normal.
but I know for one it was so much fun being at the back end of A than the very pointy end of B; even if im too slow...

I shouldn't have posted up anything. Sorry.

OK lets discuss it. What are flags for, do we pass under the yellow, do we ignore the red?
Funny thing was I was really disappointed that I shock my fist at the guy but you know what, fuck it its racing. If back markers want to block and try and use the whole track when being lapped then they should get used to arms being waved.
Henk and Michele who would have guessed.

Kel, I would back up the bus about now. people with attitudes like you have caused me to stop turning up - do it enough, and you will be the only one wherever you manage to find a place to ride.

I was asking which race it was in, as I had heard about it, but had no idea what it was about. I was curious, and if it is wrong of me to ask about it, so what. Best you never come near me, you are now also on my shit list, which actually takes some doing, I am impressed.

I was the flag marshal watching the entire thing. I really should not have to reiterate however, it is the passers responsibility to pass in a safe manner and I did not think that your fist shake was appropriate - you hit him from behind for one and yeah it's racing but shit happens when you hit other riders. And really it's *only* racing and we're all supposed to be mates..... <_<

Henk
11th December 2013, 19:22
Henk not Michelle just to clarify.

Yes you are right, it's racing, but we aren't racing for sheep stations.
Also I had kept out of this but others had raised the issue. Not only about the fist waving but the fact that you seem to have hit him on the way through, lapped traffic or not the onus is on the overtaking rider to make a safe pass, as someone who gets lapped occasionally myself, a lot of the time you have no idea somebody is behind you.

Maybe I'm a bit sensitive on this point at the moment because we had some rather major issues with over aggressive riding at the two hour this year, maybe I'm over sensitive because it's my name on the paperwork, maybe I'm a bit dark because the whole weekend ended on a it of a sour note for me, not because my bike shat itself and admittedly screwed the days racing for everyone else, but because as per usual the same six people were still there at the end of the day vacuuming the club rooms and moping the floors in loos.

Give me a break Kel, the group of people that put these things on are doing it because we want to race and because it's fun, when we get people making what appear to be agressive moves on track and then appearing to get pissed about what looks like blameless behaviour from others, it takes a big chunk of the fun out of it, especially two weeks after somebody had a major shouting fit at the steward of the meeting for being told that repeatedly running into people was unacceptable behaviour.
If you feel I'm being too harsh, sweet, I'm quite happy to take a step back, pay my money on the day and just ride my bike, with the caveat that you pick up the jobs that I've been doing for the past year or so.

Rant over.

Looks to me like you found yourself in the wrong place and got pissed of coz you lost a place. Been there done that. But its your fault. You are the passing rider. I did the same thing to Andrew in race one. I had no idea he was there. I was looking through the corner. I was waving my arms at him.
