View Full Version : What am I doing wrong here?

Last year I put a up a free race entry to the Cemetery Circuit on Facebook and got a reasonable response.
A couple of weeks ago I put up two sets of two spectator tickets, all people had to do was post a piccie of a Cemetery Circuit T-shirt, tag my FB page and the Cemetery Circuit page to go into a draw and win them
Okay; ten days later not a single piccie so changed tact and now have offered a couple of tickets to anyone who posts on my companies page, The Electric Spider LTD, tag a couple of pages and most likes wins.

Three days later I've had two entries and a like each.

I'm trying to promote our sport here as well as get people noticing my business but seem to be barking up the wrong tree. Now a huge number of people on my FB are into bikes particularly Road Racing are they not interested in sharing THEIR sport amongst their friends either as are a couple of people whom I either sponsor now or have done in the past.
Not having a bitch here just can't see the wood for the trees, what am I doing wrong

(no I haven't paid the money to promote it)

Good question... I saw it (no point me entering though). I had a similar thing on FB. Most posts get a few views but one struck over 10 times the normal views. Wish I knew why that one worked so well.

No point, what about a gift to someone, it's free after all?
what about an opportunity to help promote road racing?

not at all singling you out as you put a shitload into our game or are people just over FB these days?

should I have put it up that ALL names go into a draw rather than most likes?

I think it is because many people access Facebook via their phones... Many phones don't let you tag... Orit might be just mine.... I could always go on the full Facebook site but it is data hungry. Hardly use the laptop these days, in fact not even for here.
Yup all for promoting the sport, but the way we do it is changing as fast as the technology. It is a trick to work out how......

People love to hate Facebook but use it wisely and it can work. There are a heap of groups on there. Get in and they will promote you.

Who are you targeting? Where are you targeting?

My primary interest is promoting the Cemetery Circuit and i figure through FB my friends are predominately Motorcyclists but they all have a group of friends who are and are not into it and if I can help spread the word and get a few more people to the races that's good enough for me.
My distant second interest is to promote my business as a sparky, but of course it's race season so don't want work to get in the way of it all eh!
I was thinking of also offering a prize to whoever wears their Cemetery Circuit armband for the longest after the races. Everytime someone queries a person about 'what's that on your wrist?' they get to tell them about the races, hopefully some people will put it on their to do list for next year. Trouble is I've asked the Cemetery circuit organisers what sort of armbands they will be using and will they be numbered so I can plan ahead and have a strategy in place to make it workable but they haven't replied to me.

where am I targeting? dunno, it's effectively a nation wide event as it's holiday time and people do travel from afar to go, they just need reminding even thought it's been on on Boxing day pretty well for 61 years now.

Yep - Chook Feeding and promoting your favourite sport - the two are easily confused, especially on here !!!!!!!!

I had an old mate say he had bought a ticket to the racing boxing day 'on line' and saved X dollars. He hasn't been,(like me) for over 10 years ! (he incidently, was a Gracefield organiser)
What I'm getting at here is lack of interest from our age group. None of my large circle of ex bike mates have the interest anymore, and thats a huge group of fans.
Good luck with the promoting but it's up hill for racing nowdays, sad.

ps I too tried 'faceache', but kicked it to the curb, wasn't for me.

facebook is some gay shit.
Noone gives a fuck about it, or your business. Certainly noone gives a fuck about your business on it.
Marketing tool? Or tool marketing.

Give me the tickets. Infact, give me a fucking motorbike. Ill sign up ten times and like you, so you can feel like youve achieved something.

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck?
Quite a fucking bit, or he wouldnt be a very good woodchuck.

Well I first went when I was 13 but missed it a couple of years when I didn't have a motorbike, or at least one that would make it, but at least one of those years it was televised. Must have been around 1984.

Nowadays I cottoned on to staying the night so you can have a beer in the sun afterwards.

Arsebook? What's that?

Preorder tickets these days & the once a week spam from orgynizers works well.

People are a lot more conscious about spamming their friends these days.. Most likes wins competitions are really annoying, I think Biggles has single handedly ruined all most likes wins competitions in our small community lol

Also the reach your posts get if you dont have that many friends is not huge so you need to get someone like BRM or Kiwirider to post it on their page so you get more exposure. You could get Track and Road Race riders to post it but pages like that are very careful not to post anything if it were to look like an ad to get Electric Spider more likes because then it would seem like they are spamming their friends. You would need to offer something and have it go via your site or be originally posted by you so it is subtle advertising behind a major cherry....

Social network marketing is extremely effective, thats why these companies are worth billions and that is why marketing companies charge thousands. Its a trade in itself, sorta like a Marketing graduate posting on a forum.. I have wired up my house but the lights dont go what am I doing wrong??

Dont give up, just keep trying and see what works

27th November 2013, 11:39
Wot he said ...

I never saw it - so the social network did not reach that far .. adn I prolly wouldn't have done it anyway - I refuse the let the companies badger/bully or seduce me into clicking "like" and "share" ... I refuse to be their publicity mouthpiece

Try putting the "@" character directly in front of "The Electric Spider LTD" and "Cemetery Circuit" i.e. @Cemetery Circuit.

Spyda, I have a faecesbook page, but I never look at it unless I've had an emailed link by someone I'm friends with. Its really pointless for me, but I guess I'm old skool.
The target demographic on arsebook are young to middle age woman. Is that who you want to tag to motorcycle racing??? Unless there's cooking recipes, they aren't gunna be interested....:facepalm:
The majority of my real 'friends' are not on social media, and ALL of them either race or watch racing.
Wrong place to market racing maybe???

You hear people harping on about the benefits of social media spin doctoring. But how many people have majorly benefited from spending truckloads on social media campaigns? You hear places saying they've had 41,000 clicks, visits etc, but how many leads, how many conversions??
Social media spin is the same as radio spin was decades ago. It's just yet another form of media marketing. Localist, faceachebook, foursquare, pinterest....etc. etc... who gives a fuck?! Why should anyone else be that interested in where to buy a coffee, or get a new dress from. Just cause a mate brought a nice bagel from xyz doesn't mean I like bagels and give a shit or will even go there......
Now there's simply too many channels/streams etc to listen/watch and enjoy. People have started to disconnect.....
:zzzz:

Sorry Spyda, your question was...... :pinch:

I never once assumed everyone is on FB like I never assumed averyone is on KB but there are some, i also never assumed it would light my business on fire the reality is if i get one person whom know's me or I know becomes aware of what I actually do and I gain a bit of work from then then it's paid for itself, it's not a million dollar ad campaign after all.
