Yes a good watch the old school 500's have the engine to match a modern 450 four banger it's just the suspension and brakes that let them down.
Around a natural terrain flowing track with ideal traction a old school 500 takes a lot of beating.

I like watching old school MX vids and the main thing I notice is the suspension back in the 500 days, didn't seem to do a great deal. Certainly looked like if it was doing anything, it was against the rider.

In another vid he says the 500 is ported to produce 75Hp, yowza! Then he wrings its neck. Like a BOSS.

I have had a few Cr500's they are great fun but tiring, Any modern 450 is easier for non pros to ride.
The 500's also don't steer as well as the 450's even if in the same chassis. Crankshaft inertia i guess.

yeah, pretty fast for a bloke not raised on that sorta bike..even shane king or joel smets would be impressed! ive ridden a cr500 a bit in the past, as well as a wr500, lotta fun and at the time they seemed light and fast compared to my then xr600. i think if i had the chance to trail ride one today it'd have to be on a nice open course hehe
