View Full Version : Front tyre mileage?

Just checked my front tyre and it's way overdue for replacement on the Gen 2 Busa, I keep a log of when I last changed it and it's done around 8400km's with no chicken strips left and too little tread on the sides, WOF ? forget it.
Running Metzeler Z8 Roadtech's , good tyres , never had a problem due to my mix of riding, what are you getting out of a front ?

Around 10000 km on my old Blackbird which had a relatively conservative steering geometry and weight comparable to your 'Busa. Contrast that with the last front on my Street Triple - 17000 km on a PR3! Lighter weight, more aggressive geometry.

Front, I get about 7500 - 8000km from an S20 on a GSX-R600.

Regularly get 12,000km out of PR2's on the Connie (280kg). Front generally looks better than the rear at the end of it's life. Chop about 1,000km off that for PR3's.

Meh, too many variables involved...
My current model Busa, OEM tyres got peeled off at 5000 clicks. Rear was done, front could have run to about 6500.
The new tyres, Bridgestone S20s, at a guess will be a repeat of the above. But heck, I normally just flip the set.
Don't tell me you bought a Busa and expected to set records for tyre wear?

My GSX1200 weighs as much as the moon and I dont ride it overly quietly but the PR2s I put on it-Rear 12000kms and front 12000kms and counting-probably 2-3000kms left in it. I just am not used to tyres that last like this. I wear out a PP 150/60r on my DRZ400sm in 3000kms ffs!

3 x PR2s all about 9.5k
BT023 looks to be around 11.5k
Conti Sport Attack about 7.5k

I would expect decent mileage from the front hoop on a Busa. Not too many people would chase the front into turns, although they are capable I'm told.
Get the fork internals upgraded, it pays for itself in tyre life.

With the exception of a set of PR2s on my FJR1300, my fronts always outlast my rears. Beyond that I have no idea how long my fronts last, as I always replace tyres as a set.

You're right , I used to get 11k plus on the front on my previous Busa, turns out my tyre pressure's been running at around 25 psi where it should be around 36 cold, that'll be why it's worn so quickly - my bad. Must check my pressures more regularly .

5000km out of an S20 on my Gen 1. Plenty of tread left in the middle but well worn about 3/4 of the way round.

With PR2's, I used to get 14,000k per set on the SV650...double what I get now on the gixxer (with S20's) for some strange reason...

What I have noticed with the S20 front is that despite wearing on the shoulder, they are much more resistant to scalloping than others I have used - PR2, 016, etc. At close to 8000km, the front is still round in profile despite having pretty thin tread on the shoulders.

No wonder I get confused, PR2s were Michelins in the olden days. Remember them, great tyre.
Progress, is that tyres wear at twice the rate of the past.
