G´day to all NZ bikers!

We are Bea and Helle, a young couple from Upper Bavaria in Germany and we are probably doing the adventure of our lifetime, a round the world trip with our two more than twenty years old Honda Transalps!

We started in our home town Burghausen at the 18th of June 2011, so we are “On the Road” now since more than 2 years now.
Since then we crossed 14 countries and covered over 60.000 kilometers on our trusted bikes.
We visited the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and from Vladivostok in the far east of Siberia we shipped our bikes to Thailand. From there we did a loop trough Cambodia, Laos and Thailand before we went down to Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and finally East Timor from where we shipped to Australia.

At the moment we are still in Australia – yes, it´s a huge country and it took us over a year to travel around and we also worked a little bit to increase our travel funds again.

So far we really had a great time, met some unbelievable helpful and friendly people, rode our bikes trough amazing landscapes and had some real adventures!

On our blog www.timetoride.de and our Facebook page www.facebook.com/pages/Time-to-ride/115955945143396 you can find more information about us, our bikes, about our trip preparations and some travel reports about the countries we visited so far. We also posted lots of pictures and videos about our travel. So if you are interested, we would be very happy if you visit our blog and Facebook page!

But now the time has come to say goodbye Australia, hello New Zealand!

We haven´t been in NZ before but we heard a lot of great stories about the fantastic bike ride possibilities so we are really curious about it!

We have 3 month time to travel around and we are very interested in meeting local bikers, having good conversations, of course drinking the one or another beer and spending a great time whilst exploring NZ on our bikes!

So if some of you might have some helpful tips for us what to see, where to go, where to stay and so on... that would be great!

When we arrive in Auckland around Christmas we have to stay there for around one week because we have to wait for the bikes to arrive only at the 5th of January with a RoRo ship from Brisbane, so if someone can recommend a cheap place to stay, that would be great!

We hope to hear from you and looking forward to see some of you guys on the road!

Cheers from the bloody hot Outback of Australia
Bea & Helle

Give us a yell when you shoot through Picton. Always keen to head down the sounds, beer sounds good too. Moa is one of the local drops worth sampling here.

Hi German riders, if you find the way to Arrowtown/south island, come to Bonjour restaurant. Saturday or sunday, ask for wolfgang and we have a coffee and a chat.

Hi, A couple of good websites for interesting back roads are:

http://www.adventureguide.co.nz/index.php Run by ADVGD on this Forum. (mainly south island tracks)

http://www.adventureridingnz.co.nz/ Run by Eddieb on this forum. Newer site but has some interesting North island routes on it.

for camping in remote places look up http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-stay/conservation-campsites-by-region/

One of my Favourite campsites is: http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-stay/conservation-campsites-by-region/hawkes-bay/mangatutu-hot-springs/ with a nice free hot pool to soak in. it is about 1 1/4 hours out of napier and not on a through road.

Only other thing I can think of is that the Bannockburn Bike week is on in the south island between 1st-7th Feb and could be worth looking into if your planning on being that far south by then. http://www.bikeweeknz.com/
