Nah you are pretty skilled ill tell ya one thing you dont want to put yourself down its the worst thing youll never improve the best way to do it is by saying to yourself after a session on the track Fuck i rode like shit and look at your riding pick your faults find out why is it the way you corner is it the way you lean eg i was hanging my ass off concentrating on putting my knee flat on the deck but it just slowed me down. I found a natural position and rode to how i liked it, Dont change your style to suit the bike change the bike to suit you.
Hey apart from me babling can someone tell me is there buckets on next weekend

What's the story with this bucket racing thing. Is there racing on in Wellington on the 11th of Sept? If so I'm keen to come along and have a look.
Any suggestion on what bike to go with, I'm keen to build one but need some ideas.
Cheers

Your best bet is to score yourself a good frame easy to get nsr cbr fzr mb rg rs etc and find a motor put it in and have a go but come and watch its easier to talk in person about the rules

My bike is running perfgect now all I have done is added a cold air intake system. I put a vacuum hose of the back of the carb and ran it out to the front next to the radiator and have got a new seat for it. A RS250 tail fairing attached to the standered seat brackets. You wouldnt believe how much extra power this has brought. I mean i got it up to 3rd gear up the drive way no sweat in the powert band the hole time. My next big aim for the motor is to port it and add a sliper clutch then my bucket bike will be a fairly fast rocket ship about as fast as what Jays bike was last year I hope

f5 dave what hav you done to your motor clutch wise
F5 Dave
5th September 2005, 09:47
If you want a ‘slipper’ clutch, they do that standard after a whole lot of miles.
But taking pity, if you don’t want it to slip the setup is late model DT175 springs (5) & (4) TS125 clutch plates which are thinner & allow an extra plate to the (3) std RG ones (need one more steel too).
Ivan
5th September 2005, 14:04
sweet will talk to you this weekend if you are there. I do want a slipper clutch as I have jays old RS125 anbd want basically similar setup

Slipper clutches are really a recent development for overly aggressive engine braking 4 strokes (motoGP & supermotard are obvious). Never good to fire down the gears too aggressively on any bike as you may drive the engine revs higher than redline even with the throttle shut.
The Slipper clutch is located in your left glove.
In the sort of corner (hairpin) you have to bang it down several gears quickly, -Only ½ release it until the revs are likely to be fine (braking has slowed you down) & at which stage you are applying a bit of throttle to unweight the front anyway.
Hope to make it to GM, but the night before is my stag do so we'll see how I feel.

oh nah thats cool i just want to learn how you keep the revs the way you do i mean your bike is just going MEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH EHHHHH EHHH
and myne is BUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHH AHHHHHHH just gutless even ringing its neck out but on the 125 i am constant power band i just cant seem to get the RG to do it, the motor is standered
Oh well more points for me if you dont make it you are 2 points ahead of me HAha

Forget "making" a slipper clutch. The problem most people have at some time is stopping it slipping. If you have a problem with the rear when downshifting there are two better options for a bucket - 1:reduce crankshaft inertia/mass by fitting a smaller ignition flywheel from something like a YZ80, which will also get you a good ignition for when you hot it up and 2:don't downshift so bloody hard.
The problem I used to have when I first started was that I could slow down so fast that I couldn't actually blip the throttle quick enough for the downchanges causing a mismatch between engine and rear wheel. With heaps of compression and a light flywheel the motor got real responsive and the problem went away.

Good to meet you guys (and get out on the track). Not too bad as a first time out I think (hope).
Think I need to do something with my 'automatic' gearbox though, that was really starting to piss me off... :sherlock:
Maybe the clutch too - one that engages WHEN you let the lever out could be good.

Awesome weather. Pity I was feeling a little under it, but a stag do the night before will do that to you.
I arrived late, really didn’t feel up to much & then tried to learn the cct in the first couple of races. Still takes some nerve to get confident to lean so far with those tiny stones in strategic places despite the sweeping.
Then my bike went gzissssh! Sounded like the flywheel falling off. Checked that & it was ok. Got home & took the airbox cover off to find the carb had fallen off!
Didn’t sound anything like bwoooarr you’d expect. Plugged it back in & just fine.
Oh well.
