Your thoughts callers?
My inclination (as in most things) is to be guided by The Velvet Underground:
I'm feeling good, I'm feeling so fine
Until tomorrow, but that's just some other time

I'm sure you can lawyer your way out of the tax and if you can't then you can out ride them on your new bike

find a way to make the bike purchase tax deductable! 'promotional tool' or 'deliverys bike' mind you that'd only serve to bring your next tax bill down rather than help with the one you have. whats your line of business btw?

Good work man. You can't let them away with that jazz.
They withheld thousands from a friends business 2 years ago (due to the stupid paying ahead way it works (what about the interest they make off that aye!)) as things went a bit downhill for him, and then they took 7 months to send him the cheque.
If it took you 7 months to pay or contact them they'd have you locked up.

I think that will be the go. The secret of comedy is timing. I can use the money I have set aside for tax, then when the grey fuckers come knocking I will be able to pay them. I've missed out on a couple of bikes this year and I dont want to miss out again.

Debating somewhat similar myself, I reckon it's a fine plan until you get through the year and even better deals start coming up...

i havent 'paid' 'income tax' in over a year, and i minimise the GST by trading in drugs and whores.
and i'm not sure about either of those things, or the quote itself, and it irks me that so many people accept it.

Unfortunately, if you're in the position of having to pay taxes, you then won't qualify at WINZ for a payment to buy a bike so you can get to work.

Having spoken to the owner of the bike I want I am a mite less keen than I was. "Oh yeah, the bike has a race motor and no electric OR kick start". I want a road bike and the last thing I want to do is have to push the fucker to get it going. Its probably had the stand bracket sawed off it too so you have to use a pit stand... I forgot to ask the guy.

not a thing. this is another for the fleet. If I die with the most toys I win, right?
From the description though it is far more a racer than a cafe racer so maybe not that streetable. Still, if the price is right....

I've seen a mate sell a lot of toys trying to square up with the Taxman. I think he made the assumption that everything would keep on going swimmingly & it was just timing. But then when things didn't go to plan & the money dried up & tax was owing. All went pearshaped.
You've put the money aside, its not yours, treat it like a 90s lawyer investing money for his clients and you'll find you can 'borrow' it for your own purposes, but one day fate will tap you on the shoulder & you won't feel as clever.
I can't afford a new bike either, but I can afford to buy Classic Motorcycle Mechanics mag & dream a little.

ain't that the truth? I love buying magazines on my tablet computer. I have a zinio account and a magazine that is three months old IF you can get it here is $17, and its like $5 on zinio. I get that Classic Racer mag a bit, and some others if they have articles I want to read.
Plus my genius plan to divert tax for a while might fall foul of scrutiny from SWMBO.... IF she ever found out about it.

We have a tablet in the house but I'd have to wrestle it out of the hand of my wife or son. Have thought about it but I reread mags when there is nothing new or have in multiple places like the dunny.
Once tablet has dropped it's guts how do you store the file? It's more wrapped up like a conditional ebook isn't it?

to be honest I have no idea about that. the only magazine I collect is Cycle World because I have that and Cycle magazine going back to 1982. Takes up a shit ton of storage space thats for sure. The rest of the hardcopy mags I buy I give away or chuck or put in reception for the customers to read. You would be surprised who picks them up.

whoops, sorry: nah, I have no problem sharing.
I have spoken to the guy who tells me its more a race bike than a road bike and built by some dude in Tauranga he thinks. Its not the "easy" project it appears (they never fucking are, are they?) and in particular the roller or push start only thing is a pain in the arse. That and not knowing the state of tune of the motor: It might have 12:1 compression and be a bitch to start. Plus as cool as the flatslides are, for a street bike i think it needs roundslide not CV carbs: Mikuni VM28 or 30 or something. The tank is very cool and looks like a Benjies Cafe Racers job. But you need a matching seat and may need to chop off that rear loop (AFTER the frame is painted) and then reinforce what is left to make a seat/inner/rear guard work.

anything but, unfortunately... hence the wedge in the account which I would rather spend on a bike than on the grey ones. Depending on what this goes for I could have the thing finished and on the road for the amount of money I have to pay the fuckers. :(

"Requires some assembly.":lol::lol: :killingme
read "took 3 years to get to this point but I realised I'd never finish it. Sure I'd have it on the road in 6 months"
80% complete, but the last 20% will take 80% of the build time and 50% of the budget.
Take it from me, projects seem simple, but they are for the very well motivated undistracted kind of guy. I've been that guy some stages of my life, but I'm not now. Maybe again once I'm retired in 20 odd years.

Absolutely agree. I think it should sell for around the $3k mark as it sits but even with a lot of DIY I reckon there is at least that in it again to get it running, plus any extra painting/plating/faffing. And of course it is entirely saleable at that when its complete. Not. But I do really like those little bikes and thats a good start for someone. and I am looking at my account thinking hmmmmmmm.

I can see the temptation, I can see the hurdles and pitfalls....on the bright side, christmas is THE time for marrage and relationship breakups-score enough of that work and you can buy that puppy and get a professional to finish it off for you as well as keep the taxman happy. Got to look on the bright side sometimes HDC!

I bought a basket case 1958 T110 in the early 90's, had it restored and running in 18 months, seized up a couple of years later...... now residing of shelves in my garage waiting for the BMW fad to finish.
I find with projects you need an event to have it ready for.

I reckon its worth significantly more than the start bid. If I was buying a bike from or near that era I would like an RC30 though. Or RC45. Way over the six to xeven k I have "available" though
