I dont have the chassis number with me today but I'll post it later once I've looked it up. Gutted,.. was just about finished and looked awesum.
Anyway,.. if anyone see's it or see's possible parts from it I would appreciate a call. phone number 027 707 0641

Ah thanks man,.. it was originally silver and black,.. police do know in the report that its orange and black,.. was also last registered orange too. I also think its quite unlikely someone would ride it,.. the HISS units on Honda's are hard to get round without a lot of cash invested,.. u never know though.

No need to do that guys but I reckon who ever did this needs to learn a lesson cos for them it must have been easy to steal some one else property without knowing how hard that person must have worked to own such a bike :( Uncool
I also reckon you spread the word to the local painters shop, maybe give them a color photocopy of your bike and if the thief ges arund to have it repainted then there's a chance he could get busted by one of those paint shops..Dont give up bro, just keep looking . Hope you find it soon :)

Not only they don't know - they don't care. Other people's stuff is just shopping for these thieves. And when caught, the punishment/s are a joke. This they know and have no reason to fear. Turning the other cheek or appealing to their better nature or something, so they 'learn a lesson'? Ya wot?
The biker community is passionate about their bikes and is heartily sick of having their pride and joys nicked by scum. The bastards need to be dealt with MUCH more harshly and then, maybe, they will 'learn a lesson'...

I hear ya so shouldn't we have a strict law against these low life thieves? Cos as per NZ law you cant do anything about it except for reporting it to the cops. I'm pretty sure you are not going to beat the crap out of them if you catch one of them? So my question is how are they going to learn a lesson if no one can do anything about it and who is going to make them realize that stealing is not cool?

I think you'd be surprised at how much vigilante justice is meted out and ignored by the blue gang...
But I'm talking about if and when one of these thieving shits gets to court. Since when does a judge EVER hand down a sentence that the victim/s are happy with. Come on...
For killing 4 people, plus the shocking injuries to one more who lived...that evil bastard Bell of RSA 'fame' got 33 years and that was VERY unusual.
Theft of major items like cars, bikes etc is rarely a first offence, but one could be forgiven for thinking it was due to the pathetic punishments usually handed out.

Don't hold your breath. We got burgled by a moving company (got wind of the job and turned up an hour earlier than the job we'd booked and cherry picked some of the valuable stuff) when we were moving from Maungaraki to Greytown - in 2011.
We provided names, dates, details and the Insurance company located our stuff, but the Police wouldn't intervene because the Insurance company was involved and the Insurance company wouldn't proceed until the Police said they could and consequently didn't pay out our claim because it was too "murky" and we had some stuff, and not all of our stuff, and some stuff was in storage at one place and some at another, basically because the Police wouldn't wouldn't let us get our stuff out of storage until they'd completed their investigation. Which is apparently still going. Wouldn't know. They don't return calls. Got a washing machine through a KB mate and a dryer through another, and a bed through another, so we got the basics sorted, but fundamentally the Police don't do anything about theft. They got excited about the Insurance company investigating us for fraud though.
Your bike's probably in bits by now mate. It probably was about 6 hours after the burglary, if it doesn't have a new set of bodywork and isn't being used for trackdays. In Australia.

I have a Mexican buddy who is willing to show us the ropes :shifty:
It's seriously only a matter of time before that sort of thing blows up a bit more though. The 'justice' system has tried to make examples of a few who have taken matters into their own hands (the farmer who shot the guy who had stolen his quad numerous times) to deter people but that only works for so long.
NZ is almost always behind the rest of the world so you just need to look at what is happening overseas to see what is potentially coming our way.
On another note, I wonder what sort of interest would be shown in theft (or maybe they'd be allowed to hire more staff to work efficiently?) if those shiny new coloured cop cars started going missing :o
While I'm rambling, a good anti theft device for people warming up their cars could be a pig sticking knife under the seat. Pretty sure I've linked it before but a dude in Chch did this after he caught someone trying to take his surf. They came back later on, found the sticker with their arse, and then he found the only man in the emergency room with a knife wound to his arse, and things got sorted from there XD (It was frowned upon but really you should be allowed to store such things wherever you wish within your own property/possessions ;))

Those Mexicans certainly know what they're doing (I'm thinking of mundonarco). So if the cops and courts aren't going to take property offences seriously, and we're not allowed to defend our own property with sufficient force, then what the fuck exactly are we meant to do to keep our property safe?

Alas, setting traps is illegal. I used to put an open container of black powder in my gun safe if I was away. They want to cut that open, good luck!
Police inspector told me that was against the law. I told him there was an explosives sticker on the lid. "That should do it."

Hi Guys,
I feel sick :( My poor baby has been butchered. Sigh,... I have the full fairings but they weren't kind when removing them so they are snapped in several places, mounts broken when they couldnt undo the screws etc. Doubt they will be repairable even though the breaks are clean and the paint is in tact.
Other than that so far from the pics, it looks like a new yoke, new barrel, not sure if the ECU is still there so might need that too,.. I cant tell from the pics? Gonna need someone with a fair bit of electrical knowledge looking at this I think,.. it looks pretty mullered in that department and I dont know that much about it.
So apparently from the tip off I got from here,.. you know who you are,.. the police managed to find and recover the bike and parts. Unfortionately it doesnt look like the theif will be caught as they removed finger prints from the bike. I could name and shame the suspect though, feelin very uncomfortable though :(
I'll be picking up the bike in the next few days, just gotta rent a van or something. sigh,..

I dunno what to do to be hoenst,.. its gonna cost me $160 odd to pick it up. obviously the bikes worth more than that but I dunno what to do. cut my losses and sell as scrap to a wreckers or bother trying to repair it. apart from the wiring looms being butchered, and a new ignition unit\yoke i cant see much else that could be wrong with it? The plastics I can replace,.. I have a couple of sets that I can use for now.
Does everyone think this is a personal write off?
Basically a guy from Kiwibikers tipped me to where it was,.. thats all I know.. The police did the rest. It was stolen from Morning Star Place, St Lukes, Auckland

Holy crap what was the point of stealing it when you're too dumb to even remove fairings...
At least you've got something back, but man, they really did a number on it.
Also name and shame I say, only because no police action will come of it (although how can they have possession of it and not be charged with theft is a bit farked up). Kinda like a public service to warn people whom their associating with since removing hands and fingers is frowned upon these days. Probably possible to repair alot of it yourself. If the ECU is gone though I would consider wrecking it, might be a bit of a nightmare to find one. Unless you went aftermarket....

How come it will cost $160? There's likely a KBer that can help transport it for you. If $160 is a huge concern at this stage then repairing it could really stretch your budget.
I think it will all come down how easy it is to get running - either restoring ($) or bypassing (?) the HISS.
You could customise it, or turn it into a track bike. Or you could walk away from it and put the fix up money into something else that you can ride.
Do you have somewhere you could work on it?
Perhaps if you decide against keeping it you could offer it up for sale here, or on TM. The insurance auctions on TM seem to usually get ok prices.

Thieving cunts, not enough disrespect that they stole it but they go and butcher it as well.
Fix the electrics and street fighter it is probably the way to go. But maybe just get it back and store in secure location while you cool off/get perspective a bit.

It has the HISS lockset/key/ECU right? That's going to be a bit of a cunt to sort. Those cost a bit to replace don't they as they need to be replaced as a total unit; new keys/lockset/ECU.

Far more likely to happen in the super city than outside it.
Dunno. The only instance I know of, moto X bikes & trailer stolen from outside a motel was closer to the first three places mentioned, Murupara being closest.
Inquiries indicated that gang members had the bikes, and where, the police were told but did nowt.

I agree,.. they are a pain in the ass to sort,.. I had a key stolen to a Honda a few years back and getting the HISS stuff sorted will be a real pain. Seen a few HISS\ignition\key\ECU sets on ebay for around $400 so ill just have to do the math and see if its all gonna be worth it.
Provided the ECU is still there,.. I can resolve the ignition stuff fairly easy though. The $160 isnt a problem,.. just mentioning it as that was the price of the towing fee. Pick up will be extra, but I'm sure I'll sort something aye.
If someone wants to come have a look at it with me, you'd be more than welcome,.. just nervous that the guy who stole it might be able to read all this and pay me a vist when I invite someone over to help :S

Get a few bods and pay him the mongrel a visit, then if he's stupid enough to threaten with firearms I'm sure the police will certainly get involved, given current news events.

Given what's happened your attitude is pretty bloody good!
Honestly I'd streetfighter it, or put the rego on hold and do it up over a few years. But I'm a sucker for punishment.
If you decide not to, for the love of god don't give it to a wrecker - trademe it as a project bike, I've paid $2500 for a moderately munted kawasaki ER6, I'm sure someone would stump up more than that for a 954.

Wow, I fail to understand how someone could do that to your pride and joy! If you do decide to fix it back up, I know a few people that would be keen to pitch in labour and discounts for parts via industry suppliers! I still can't believe humanity could sink so low... So sorry for you mate, I do hope the prick that did the damage gets justice!
If you do decide to cut your losses, advertise it on here first? I'm always a sucker for a long term project!

I asked the same question but unfortionately not. None on St Lukes Road, Morningside drive, and St lukes shopping center only covers the car park over the road.
The officer I spoke to about it that was investigating the case, said that unfrotionately it all came down to cost,.. so I said: "Why dont you sell all the super advanced technology you have in all your police cars to catch people speeding whilst driving in the opposite direction? Dont you think that money would be better spent on CCTV to catch actual criminals?" He actually laughed and replied "People higher up just do things that dont always make sence and we dont have any choice in it,.. but I agree"

What a shame. I wouldn't want my bike back after some twat had messed with it to that degree. It'll never feel the same.
I would advise parting it out or alternatively sell it complete on trademe or the like to some bloke looking for a project.
Don't sell it to a wrecker/shop, they will give you pennies on the dollar.
On another note, if the HISS ignition is broken (which it looks like it may well be) perhaps you could have a go at fitting a swipe card ignition!

I'm actually protecting the police, not the dude,.. like I said. I'll hapilly PM anyone whos interested.

Interesting. I'd be amazed if a guy who did that to a bike was considered "fit and proper" to own firearms. Perhaps next time you're speaking to the police you should also mention the firearms?

So I picked it up,... :(
Poor thing ,.. basically I think I can fix the fairings with a plastic welder and use the dude that sprayed the tank to touch it up,
The ECU has gone,.. but looking at it I think it should be just that, new barrel\hiss unit and a yoke. Found all that for around $400 delivered except the yoke.
Could do with some help troubleshooting electrical stuff if anyone wants to volunteer,..
Does anyone know anything about the legality of the frame VIN number? Is it a legal requirement to have it re-stamped,.. and if so,.. anyone know where I can get this done? Same goes for the chassis number\plate thing? Where can I get a new one?
thanks in advance

There's heaps of yokes on EBay, either stock or some blingy billet ones: http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_nkw=HONDA+CBR929+CBR+929+954+CBR954+TRIP LE+TREE+CLAMPS+&_itemId=390103897407
You need the VIN number on the bike, maybe give VTNZ a call (http://www.vtnz.co.nz/) - I imagine for a small fee they'll inspect it and supply a new VIN plate. Obviously best done after you've made the bike roadworthy if that's the direction you go.
Best of luck whatever you do.

About $500 for a used lock and ECU set on Ebay.

few to choose from.
Thief has hacked the battery wiring to get the ECU and smashed the ignition switch but the rest of the loom and wiring looked to be pretty much intact.

Yup, and don't bother ringing the Police to say where it is, ring and say you have just happened to have purchased a new machete for the garden when your bike with GPS tracking was stolen and you are outside the address about to go in to get it back, and also you may have to use said machete in self defence if they do not handover your rightful property. Something might get done while there is still time that way :)

LOL like the way you think. Theres this other GPS tracker that gets hooked into the ignition system and allows you to remotely shut the ignition off!
Just wait until the bikes moving 100km/hr.. and Ill leave the rest to your imagination! :msn-wink:

So, I bought a new ECU, triple clamp, HISS unit etc to get this bike started. Honda thought they were funny when they put all the electrical connectors under the airbox which was a mission!! I've not had too much chance to play with it yet but I had the following problems:
1. Once powered up, instead of the clocks doing its nice little display of numbers going up to 100 and back, and the speedo pin flicking up to the top and back,.. it just displays all 8's for about 3 seconds, and then goes to normal,.. weird.
2. The battery was very very flat,.. I put a 12v charger on it whilst connected up to the bike to try and start it but all that happens is that the regulator rectifier clicks a lot but doesnt turn over the starter. I'm guessing its just flat and he charger isnt putting in enough to help so I'll try again once its charged off the bike.
3. the thief removed the 4 pin connector to the HISS unit, and to what looks like a power relay off the positive connector on the battery, which has resulted in some messy connections until I can get some new connectors. Anyone know where I can get these?
4. Originally taking off the triple clamp, and trying to replace it I though I had a dud clamp,.. but apparently the forks move out of alignment under weight and it took a bit of persuasion to get the new one on,.. is this normal if you dont jack the front of the bike up?
5. and finally the ECU connectors,.. looks like he tried to do some artistic wiring,.. I'm not sure, but apart from the lump of solder and a stripped wire, it looks ok? care to comment?

I'll have another go over the next couple days, but I'm not that great at this stuff :( I'll let ya know.

I'd be wary of doing that. You don't want to fry your replacement ECU and chargers ain't designed for that sort of lark.

interesting story. glad you got the bike back shame its in such bad shape.
fricken hate tiny pricked thieving bastards. I went through a period where my car was broken into more times than I can remember. At one stage someone broke my left quarter light to access my car when the right quarter light was already broken from a previous robbery. The idiots would try and start it with a screwdriver. every few days Id have a new screwdriver on my front seat.
cops finally caught a boy and girl both between 14-15 years old. after someone nabbed them in the act and cops happened to be just around the corner. obviously absolutely nothing will happen because they are too young. Should charge their fricken parents for it IMO, pay all my insurance fees.
*cough* anyway. rant over, good luck with the bike.
