Looking at the maps you can ride to Akaroa, then onto Summit Road, Pura Port, Pigeon to Lyttlelton.
Looks to take about 3 hrs, according to Google maps. Anybody done this lately?

...you may find that any paper roads on that side of the peninsula to be just that...and fairly serious going...

What do you mean by "Pura Port"? If you mean Purau and Port Levy (two different places) then yes, you can ride to those on the way to Lyttelton from Akaroa, but you won't enjoy it on your Gold Wing.

There are two Summit Roads, the one above Akaroa Harbour is sealed and and open, and there are various ways to get towards Lyttelton from there, but the Summit Rd above Lyttelton Harbour has a closed section from the top of Rapaki Track eastwards to the top of Mt Pleasant Rd, so to get to the town of Lyttelton you need to be on the low road from Governors Bay.

If you are on your Scrambler you will be fine. Those exact roads I have not done though generally those roads are narrow, windy, shingle and poorly maintained. Washboard-y as. Not a lot of fun on the Wing.

I used to do a loop out to Diamond Harbour, then Purau - Port Levy up to the Summit and into Akaroa on my Scrambler when I had it. It's very scenic.

If I zoom in on maps I can see a white centre line - so I am pretty confident it was there.
Just wondering post quake and stuff.
And yes pretty hard going - but I will be on holiday and cruising 12 days in the South.

If you want the easy way on half decent paved roads, then follow SH75 from Akaroa, turn right into Gebbies Pass Road, then when you come up to the sea turn left and keep going until you reach Lyttelton.

I will be 2 up on the Wing.

Here is a more detailed route through .
Day 7

Ride in through Little River to Akaroa.
Up Long Bay Road above Akaroa.
Summit Road and down Pigeon Bay Road.
Homes Bay Road – Port Levy Pigeon Bay Road.
Pura Port Levy Road
Bay View Road. Governors Bay Teddington Road.
And through to Lyttelton.

All the above appear to be sealed and have a white centre line.
Looking closer PLPB Road looks unsealed , bugger.

Yeah that has never been sealed. The road from Little River to Port Levy is unsealed also.

It is worth the drive right around if you have time though.

Yeah. I think your right. I hate going over the same road twice. Sometimes you have to suck it up. Doing Reefton to Kumara twice as well.

I don't think the Wing will enjoy that, thanks anyway

Nah just meant the main road sorry. So you'd turn right at Teddington instead of left towards Lyttelton, but the catch is you'd have to back track a little.

Long bay road and back around the summit road to the hilltop is worth doing, narrow in places but all sealed and usually in pretty good nick, and as mentioned above over gebbies pass and around the bays to lyttleton (or over dyers pass from governors bay) as an alterative to coming back through halswell.

No matter what anyone here says, DO NOT ride the unsealed roads on your Goldwing! In places it is very steep and if you meet a car coming towards you, it be almost impossible to get around them, especially if you have to stop. I've done it numerous times in cars and once on an 1150gs and was lucky enough not meet any oncoming traffic. Stick to State Highway 75 like someone has suggested, awesome road, be careful on the corners.

Yes Sir. Always riding safe, especially with the trouble and strife on board. Sort of a moderator so to speak.:Police:
She has a hardy little knuckle that hits always in the same kidney area, every time.
Going to double back a bit, I really hate that, and do the safer suggested routes.
While there are some gravel roads I am comfortable with on the Wing I wont be doing the first intended route.
Its a good excuse to bring the Triumph down sometime don't you think?
