bit steep for a 10 min check on a trailbike? considering cars cost the same and require more inspection time..........whats the wof cost for a m/c in yr area? I see a few places in Aklnd offering $20 wofs for cars.

Sounds about right for what I paid for my last wof a few weeks ago.

10 min check 60 min wait !

I thought cars cost more to get a WoF on? I should have noticed, taking a fucking million of each in a month

Don't know about you guys, but every wof I have had has been $30 (for my car)

Just wait till you go to a wof place and the guy goes, I need to take the bike for a quick ride to check the brakes....I told him where he could shove his fucking test ride (this was when I had my blackbird).

Yep - $50 is the full car price - but you still have a decent point.

$25 at my flatmates work. No wait time, he rides my bike to work while I go to work in my van. I come home to a wof'd bike and pay with the rent.

I realise you may well be talking about the likes of VTNZ etc. but that response to me grabbing my helmet gets a "Fair enough, see ya later" from me.

It brings up a point though, obviously even VTNZ shouldn't be chucking them on the rollers, so how should the brakes be checked? At VTNZ it's always been either me or their dude just doing a hardish stop at about 15kmhr, and the visual inspection. You wouldn't pick up warped disc/pulsing lever there.

The requirement is that the brakes need to be able to stop the bike within 7 metres from 30KPH.

Action Wreckers. If you can stop at the bottom of his driveway without smashing though the workshop, your brakes are good to go

its hard to write a spec to include an acceptable level of warpage whilst riding it, if indeed that is a word. (that is a word, I looked it up. . .not so sure on warpage. . .

My old RF when I bought it just about removed fillings on the pre-purchase test-ride stopping for lights on motorway. I bought it anyway & rode it carefully home to remove them straight away to fix.

Papakura Motorcycle Services, Tironui Rd Papakura. I'm pretty sure he charges $20 for bike WOF's & it's a whole lot less painful than VTNZ. Open Saturday mornings too.

$32 from the AA for me...though it does feel like I'm doing my own WOF when I have to check the lights, steering and brakes for them...

Yup this was a VTNZ and the dude didn't go for a helmet he was gonna have a blat in the carpark to check the brakes out. Didn't seem right to me. Now I've found a good place run by a motorcyclist where they ask me to ride up and do the brake check myself whilst they observe, anything out of the ordinary and they can take it for a ride. I don't trust plonkers to ride my bike, be it a 50cc or 1300cc one. Man's bike is a thing of pride.

Cars $42 from the Challenge workshop down road. Book it for a Sat morn walk home and collect a hours or so later. Sweet.

Most recent bike one was $35 at VTNZ and they almost dropped the bike lifting it on the side stand to spin the wheels .............

They put the price up since the complaint about adjusting GN250 brakes.

I usually took my bike to a garage recommended by the Honda shop. Last year I took it to the same place that does my Subaru. I was not happy watching proceedings, I got the impression that they didn't usually do bikes. No problem, this time the car went the Subaru shop the bike went back to the original garage. Happy happy all round.

Yeah but if the mechanics are in the middle of other jobs mate it's not like they can (or should) just down tools to do the wof there and then.

I love guys like this - ''No one rides my bike but me!!!!'' I don't have to ride a bike to do the WoF, but for these guys I always do...or it's no WoF. I should set up a video camera to record the huffing and puffing, all the posturing, it's just fucking hilarious!

I said I don't let plonkers ride my bike, there is a difference between someone who your gut tells you shouldn't ride your bike going to test ride the bike and someone who you can with a bit of common dog see will not do anything stupid. Now you may love guys like me, but we are the way we are for a reason. I work hard to earn the things I own and the hassle and lose lose situation of going through an insurance claim or having a written off bike is something no motorcyclists really wants.

As for the huffing and puffing and posturing, I don't know much about that.

Anyway, feel free to not read this reply properly either, I guess they can only make glasses so strong ..... I'm just joshing you...it's all fun and games.

One of the reasons I take my bike to the local bike shop for its WoF rather than VTNZ. I know that when Neil takes my bike for a test ride he'll treat it with as much respect as I do.

i think thats pretty standard at vtnz in seaview, Wellington. I thought they were all raising prices anyway with the new WOF law that came in.
Newer cars don't need to be checked as often so they get less money?
= price increase.

I paid $40 for my last WoF in Riverhead, but there's a guy in Browns Bay that does them for $30. Haven't had any issues with either of the guys, whereas some guy at VTNZ tried to test my dads riding skills last time he went, so quite happy carrying on with the two places I've been to so far.

I just bought a new (to me) bike in Auckland and needed to get a WOF before heading out of Auckland - bike was in St Heliers Bay, so I popped down to the local Vehicle Testing station at 115 Line Rd, Glen Innes. Cost $25 for a 1 year WOF and done in 15mins, even gave me a free 5w park light which was blown.
Yeah I know it's the Bronx, but they was cheap and friendly. Thumbs up.
