Hi all,
Im after a quick bit of advice.
Just bought a bike that im picking up tomorrow.
Problem is, i left organising insurance a little late and now its the weekend and everyone seems to be closed. :(
I got a decent enough quote from kiwibike and also one from Dave Golightly, but tried to call last night forgetting it was the start of the weekend and they were already closed.
Im picking up the bike from MCR Dunedin and need to bring it back to Queenstown and am a bit worried about doing it uninsured. It can be done, sure, but its a bit of a risk id rather avoid if possible.
So, does anyone know if its possible to buy insurance on the weekend?
Or, is it possible to buy insurance through the garageon pick-up?
Cheers

Did you try AMI? Pretty sure I've called them at 2am before to change stuff on my policy.

Choose one of those companies that have given you a quote and email them through a confirmation stating that yes you would like to accept the quote that they have given you on whichever date it was for the bike.
Make certain you give your full name, DOB, D/L number and obviously the bike's rego plus other major details.
Take it from there...

Yeah, AMI will do it over the phone. There'll be some haters out there but they've always seen me right so I'm happy to recommend them.

Thing is, there was no date stated on the quote. Whilst i was on the phone, it was known i wanted insurance asap but no date on the quote itself.

Just tried AMI, they want nearly double what Kiwibike and Golightly quoted.

Nothing stopping you cancelling the policy one month down the track then going to Kiwibike?

:eek5:
Wow, i've just gone through the instant quote thing on kiwibike again and a lower premium came up! I continued and added more info and it said something along the lines of 'we need to contact you to clarify your answers to some of the questions,' and 'in the meantime we have issued you with a temporary 3 day policy'!
Err, i'll take it, i guess, and call them on Monday!

Surprised AMI was double but ah well, sounds like you're sorted anyway, although I'd be printing a few copies of all that off for sure haha

Im picking up the bike from MCR Dunedin and need to bring it back to Queenstown
Depending on what bike it is I could ride it to Queenstown for you on Boxing Day.

Maybe your house or car insurance company could cover you for a few days if they have a after hours customer service number. Other than that just take it easy especialy on the bends and if it rains on the way home. At least you wil not have to worry about any ice on the road this time of year.

Yep take it easy on the bends and you will be ok :facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm: Yer right.
There's more of a likely hood of being hit buy a car on the wrong side of the road and or some such shit like that out of your control on that road but ya don't need insurance for that do ya:brick::brick::brick::brick:.

2012 675se in Black and Gold. My dream bike!
She just got me back home safe n sound.
Weather was a bit yuck in Dunners - on and off cold rain showers that felt almost sleety.
But it brightened up the further West i got.
Gonna call Kiwibike again tomorrow to sort it all out.

P.S. Not two minutes from pickin' 'er up, a woman did the old, wait til im nearly past then pull out and stop dead right in front of me. Also, someone else did a similar thing in Alexandra (i think it was).
Good job i dont trust anyone in a car and expect them all to do it, otherwise it would've been a short dream ride!
