Hi all,

First post, I'm new to biking and quite new to NZ, having moved over from the UK in April. Always wanted to ride a bike and the weather over here swung it for me, still on my learners license and taking it easy, but loving it. Only a month or to go before I can take my restricted.

I am really interested in getting some more training, I am riding about 400km a week (commuting) at the moment and feel I am getting better with each ride. I'm not really in to speed or risk taking. I needed to get a larger bike as I'm a tall git and found I could not fit on most bikes I tried, ended up with a BMW 650 Dakar with a high seat and lower pegs are spending a few weeks on a borrowed 125 scooter! Can anyone recommend how/where to get more experience, I am keen to learn I'd love to do some adventure riding, but think that maybe some road skills fist might be the best move.

thanks in advance

Hi all,

Giday.

Nope, the roads here are much harder than the local dirt, get yourself off on a few good open trail rides. That way when you find yourself in a compromised or sub-optimal situation the resulting encounter with said dirt won't necessarily cost too much in medical bills.

Hurts juuuust enough so the lessons stick.
