View Full Version : Identifying a KTM off-roader?

I have been given a KTM MOTO X bike (deceased estate), been trying to use the KTM serial number charts on line to help pin it down but the numbers I have don't seem to compare.

The engine is a 2 stroke and the engine number ends in 300R.
Can anyone advise what model this might be?

Cheers.

Hey mate, post the frame number and I'll have a look through the ID list I have tucked away somewhere.

I might hazard a guess at a 300 two stroke.

There's no decals or stickers with the model on it anywhere on the bike? Is it orange?

Hi - it's orange but can't find anything else on other than a bit of writing on the expansion chamber which didn't give any real info.

White plastics? Kick start on the left side? I can't ID it but it seems old. Are you sure it's MX and not enduro? Maybe 300 wr.

Asshole!!!

Well things have been a bit quiet on the off road forum.

But seriously have to ask the question.. no serial # stamped on the head, or engine# on the cases, no paperwork ? no decals, serial # on labels ?

Hopefully I'm wrong and you can put my cynical mind at rest.

If it has pink dazzle splattered over it I'll claim it. ;)

Here;s a list of engine numbers for the early years
54i/542, 1979=82
543, 1983=84
545/545 1985=89
546 1990=94
the first 3 digits show the engine type and years of manufacture , KTM use the same numbers to identify various parts it's just the first 3 that show the years it will fit.
500 series is for the 125's, 560 the 350/420/440/495/500/550

Thanks for your help, could be enduro, I'm not that familiar with the differences, kick start is on the right, It's got USD forks and Hydraulic clutch, plastics are Orange with a couple of white side panels near the rear wheel.
