Xmas in a ditch

hi all, hope the new year bring you all safe and pleasent rides,

dec 22 myself and lady went out for a nice sunday morning ride, left at 11am by 11.15 we were in a ditch, deliberately run off the road. Great start to the xmas break.

so now im looking for advice on a camera to fit to the bike any suggestions

I use a CamOne instead of a GoPro since its has a rear screen, easier to use functions and seems better coming out of shadows - oh its cheaper as well - oh and German built plus it uses same lenses/mounts etc as GoPro which can be bought for 20/30$

Hope both of you and the bike are OK.
Although it seems incredible I have had similar experiences, one guy swerved out into the outside lane of a passing lane as I went by and carried right on out into the opposing lane. Previously at every straight bit of road that would have been an overtaking possibility he had swerved over the centreline... An older guy in a people mover with young kids onboad... There are definitely nutters out there. Sad you met up with one.

I use a contour but it is a bit fiddly to view and edit.

as a camera, what exactly to dyou want/ need?

Your options are things like the go pro - mountable virtually anywhere and at any angle, and has very high qaulity footage. pricey though at $400+ each.
You are wanting something front, and something rear? or just one you can mount as you please?
With stuff like a go pro, you are limited to the size card you put in them.

A while back on one of my old bikes, I ditched my mirrors, and set up a small camera the looked through the numberplate, hooked up to a 3 inch lcd screen mounted on the fairing stay near the dash. Night vision capable as well. It had an auxiliary out pug plug thingy to which you could plug stuff into - by stuff, I mean a storage / recording device that could record what the camera sees as you ride. I never bothered with that side of things, but for the camera, cables, screen, it cost me about $65 off ebay. worked without a hitch for 18 months till I sold the bike.

there are also options marketed at cars that record on a 5-10 minute loop, so that if you have an accident, you turn it off, and it auto saves the last 10 minutes or so leading up to your accident.

I like the go pro. You can put A huge chip in, turn down the quality and record for hours. Of course, the battery only Lasts 45 minutes.

Turning on-off is a little hard. Have to look for the blinking red light to see if it's on.

mums still bit grumpy but with 5 broken bones cant really blame her, still shes keen to get the old girl on the road and we are off again

as for the vechical it was a white 2 wheel drive ute, flat deck no sides 2 black tool boxes up the front of the deck, i.e machanics/ builders tool boxes locial gossip is, its a locial who doesnt like harleys, the old goldwing could be mistaken for one (hard to beleave i know)

so guys and girls be awear if you are up the paraparas, st hiway 4 area

Sounds very distinctive, hope they catch him.
Maybe when Rastus goes up to Wellywood to pick up his new wheels he can cruise the area undercover before they signwrite the bike.
As well as catching the munter in ute he could at same time demonstrate how good that training is while filming the next ltsa add. Perhaps they might even stop in the middle of the road and 'chat'...

A very good reason to set up a camera that's for sure.
I watch with interest as I have been thinking about camera's.

Absolute shit reason prompting the thought for the camera.

I have a camera bolted to my bike for similar reasons, just something I can use for insurance evidence if needed.

I got a chinese made thing, "Mini F9 Sport DV" is the name it sells as (or M500 in other shops), REALLY cheap but pretty good quality overall (for the price of a GoPro you can get 4 of these .. get yourself 360degree coverage on your bike :-)
