:woohoo:

I know we live in Lord of the Rings country, but this Fantasy lark about 'The Ultimate' is a bit too much....:(
If it gets you off the beaten track it is an adventure. If it gets you home safely you have had an adventure!
Whether it be on a Postie bike around Cape York, a Monkey bike (Dakar) ......

After checking out ADV, the other site...The adventures people have on their own 'ultimate adventure bike'
ensures we are following some like minded individuals, superb photography and some well written, entertaining blogs....

I think that this makes the whole package the 'ultimate'
No point in having a fantastic beast if you cannot share stories, build rapport with locals, eat as they do, do as they do aka TheBigfella, RoninMoto....:2thumbsup
I hope we all find the ultimate adventure bike and I dare say what is parked in most riders garage at present represents the ultimate to them....

This will be an interesting thread and will no doubt create some discussion....BUT, no oil questions....:brick:

:eek5: Oh lord.......:)

The song was originally associated with human and spiritual unity, closeness and compassion.......Yeah, none of that here...:)

Well I spose me being an A Grade Diesel Mech, A member of 4wd clubs for about 20 years (not any more) and into (when I can) Adv riding so when something comes along that has a Diesel engine, All wheel drive and it happens to be a bike, well, ya know how it is.

Yep, found it a couple of years ago...
Is made in Holland, it looked fantastic and has a 1000 km tank range.....There is a photo here somewhere....

bloody cool i reckon...does 2wd mean it could do a reverse wheelie? hehe, ive often felt diesel tech may one day have a place in motorcycling
as for the ccm, they have hit on a niche in a sense...giving a 450cc bike setup from stock for adv incl a fairing etc, a bit like the tenere but in
the best size!

The KLR based Diesel that is currently made for the military market is also rumored to be available soon to us non warrior types.

Very tempted to ring the LTSA and say Ive just imported this Diesel KLR which I brought off the Talaban Trademe and ask what the RUC will be.

A three cycl diesel............
That will be light:killingme

That first one Ross posted looks nice but, sounds heavy and I don't know about the shaft drive on slippery stuff with the torque rotation and all.

Diesel KLR or DR would be cool, LTSA prob don't have a classification so just tell them its a mobile generator, and it just happened to start moving while you were sitting on it :)
Restarting a diesel after a river drowning could be fun too...
The torque curve of a diesel would be ideal for adv riding though.

From what I gather the performance of the diesel KLR is not far south of a standard one. What that says about either one i dunno.

List of thngs the ultimate bike needs below

60 ish lazy HP

Two cyls.

160kg ish

Comfy seat

4-500km range

6 gears with a low first and an overdrive 6th.

More dirt than street.

proper subframe

crashability

Good parts backup.

Sounds just like a KLR with a Versys engine and some suspension work.
Not sure what a comy seat is unless you mean one that makes you jizz

And let me know when it’s finished so I can try it our. You’ll probably need a crash test dummy (or dumby).

I dunno why you're complimenting him. It's a boxer motor, so where the hell is the other half of the bike?

Boxer bikes can't be that small surely? ;)
