I have memories of being shoved into the fence between the school and the caretakers house during games of bullrush that somehow became scrag when a ball was thrown in. And this fence was a proper fence, chicken wire and concrete posts, none of this white picket stuff...

Bullrush never went away....
Hell, Just a couple of weeks back I challenged an entire shed full of pissed up kiwis to a game.
When no one took me up on the offer I called them all pussies.
Then they all wanted a go.
So I backed down.
...........Thats how I roll.

Nowadays:
Kid says they're being bullied. "Bully" when questioned, said some mean word or something, once.
Kid wants teacher to ask a group if they can play with them...
Kid says others being mean... they don't want to play with the kid.
Real precious nowadays... Just wait till this crop start having kids :eek5:

I love the generic "complain about the newer generation" bunch.
You're all focusing on the negative side of life, have a milo and a wank and you'll forget all about your wee whingefests.

I'm just surprised and a little gob-smacked that some parents have wrapped their kids in so much cotton wool and bubble wrap, I get all the "what if my kid gets hurt" stuff having two of them myself. But I honestly think kids NEED to do dumb stuff and get scuffed up to figure things out. It teaches them about consequences to their actions i.e. climbing a tree that's not big enough to hold them and they fall out. But then in today's risk adverse culture I'm a hard parent, but my kids will benefit from it later in life.

Ooops the kids still do bull rush at my club (though it is hands and knees), though there are some precious parents. "Johny" can't take off his t shirt under his suit as he has self confidence issues; "Johny" then has a hissy fit and storms out after being gently thrown to the ground.

All kids should be made to watch the black and white movie " The Lord of the Flies" to see real anarchy in action.
The real problem is does society fit you in or do you fit society ?
If you want bull rush just visit an Marae when there's Pah games/war's on.

Yep, in my younger days we played rugby on frosty fields in bear feet, no boots allowed untill 7th grade. We played bullrush at school, climbed trees and fell out of them, flew down steep hills on home made trolleys with no brakes and often crashed. We had the occassional bone broken, plenty of cuts and bruises, but hell, it was fun and we learned our lesson by "the school of hard knocks" and if i had my time over i would do it all again.
Todays PC Brigade have ruined it for the kids with all their bullshit and "you can't do this or that" because you might get hurt. It's no wonder we are now breeding a generation of sooks and soft cocks.
Thank You PC Brigade (NOT)

There's a school in north Canterbury & it's a part of tomorrows school's where the kids are all winners & they aren't allowed to play any form of contact sport, climb trees etc...
next thing we get a call from the school our sons being a bully blah blah blah, after the education people had been down from Welly....
turns out the boys were playing, climbing trees in the out of bounds area having a race to the top with no rules, tackle tag, demolition soccer & scrag using a sock
& as our son had no fear when playing said games other kids got hurt so was classed as a bully
these boys were bored with just walking around a lunch time & playing hand ball games etc...
it didn't take them long to work out for themselves how to bend the rules, the only game taught to my son was scrag with a sock the rest they sorted'''
a month after the education people were there we pulled our kids out of school & put them on correspondence as we lived 23k's from the bus stop
they got to shoot, hunt, ride bikes, & hoon in paddock racers etc... & still finished school & some are farm/business managers, vet nurse & the last is off to the Army to do mechanics
so we need the contact sports/games & cane brought back in to our schools

I completely agree, We have just decided to change the school our kids are going to because of the molly coddling environment. Every scratch is a major drama.

We just need to let kids be kids and make sure there's a bottle of witch hazel in the cupboard.
I'm doing ok with my two though, I managed to find some broken beer bottle with my bare foot the other day and as MrsD was prodding around it with a needle to make sure the glass was out, Master not-yet-five took a close look and said "Harden up Dad, it's just a bit of blood."
