Something to do with music. Maybe a certain genre. Probably really easy for me to talk about metal. So metal music is my topic

Can anyone give me some ideas or somebody can volunteer to give me one of theirs or write it for me!!!How about a speech on "why you don't like speeches"! Part of your material could include your disdain for public speaking and how foolish you feel standing in front of a crowd looking out at all their blank faces thinking "when's this embarrassment going to end??"

Seriously though, pick a subject you know alot about and have a genuine interest in and word your speech like a lecture, as though you are teaching your audience about your subject of interest. It's always easier to talk about something you enjoy too!

Do you actually have to WRITE the speech, or just speak it. I give speeches quite frequently, but I never write them out in advance. Just some notes and a general structure amd then ad lib it , depending on the audience.

What is the subject. And what sort of audience. And what sort of speech? Persuasion? Declamation? Tirade? Denunciation (I'm good at those) ? Technical? Exposition? Congratulatory? Exhortation?

Speeches used to scare the crap out of me, especially in front of large audiences. I went as far as resorting to beta blockers for a while, brilliant drugs, they get rid of nerves entirely. Then I went on a public speaking courses and learnt loads of tricks and tips. My two basic tips to you, and the ones I live by are:

1. Know your topic well. Don't write your speech and read it - it makes for really boring listening. Just write down some bullet points and shoot from the hip. If you know your topic well it will come accross well.
2. When speaking to an audience, don't talk to the audience, pick out one individual in the audience and talk to him/her. Then move onto someone else after about 20 seconds, and so on.

Good luck.

Now ya fucking talking!

Talk about the decline in good metal, or how it's modernized, and only really held up in eastern European countries, where it can still thrive and get on the charts with deathmetal.

Or just talk about how Metallica sold out, ya know

give a history on alcohol?

Talk about the probation, talk about how the human race couldn't have urbanised if it was't for the antiseptic properties of alcohol .. talk about a need for alcohol but counter with the effects of alcohol on the human body and with imparing judgement

..
raise a toast to the class if you're allowed..

*Shrugs* a good irish toast or... well..

I see you are a drummer in two bands.
So you can write what you know about. That's about the most important rule in writing. KNOW YOUR SUBJECT.

Essaysts are informitive and explanitory. They carry the writers personal opinion on the subject matter in hand along with any personal experiance that may be of interest. They are not critiques, short storys, or biographys although all these elements can be incorperated into the essay. Essays can mock and satirize have humour and cynicism.

Whatever you do make it interesting not for yourself but those that know nothing about metal music. Thats the key for writing a good essay. It must hold the readers attention on a subject matter they knows nothing about or are interested in until they start reading the essay.

Looks like I need to go back to the opticians. I thought you needed to write an essay............and I see it's a speech. Still much the same rules apply. Use speech cards with the points that you want to make.

You win.

My made up speech on 'How to be Heavy Metal' only got me a merit. But I think that's because I had to piss around for about 40 seconds setting up the amp, before I busted into a wicked solo.

Yeah, hold up ladies, one at a time.

Just reply with...
"What the hell is ADD?
My friends say I should act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?"

Or...
"What the hell is wrong with me?
My friends say I should act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?"

Or...
"Why would you wish that on me?
I never want to act my age

What's my age again?"

I haven't written a speech for a few years. At one stage, in a past life, I wrote heaps of these -- about two a week on average for my then chairman and chief executive who were big time into public meetings of various sorts. Mostly start from scratch stuff each time too, with limited scope for cutting and pasting (the true power of the word processor!). The first speech of any consequence that I delivered myself was on my wedding day, which I think I started with some pathetic attempt at humour like "unaccustomed as I am to public speaking..."
