Looks like Triumph really needs to lift their game in the big naked class, with competition like the V4 Tuono, KTM Superduke 1290 and now this.....

They should powder-coat the mufflers and call them a belly pan.

Yes and what are they doing for this year. Oh yeah, removing the forged wheels from the R and adding the flyscreen/bellypan etc. We demand forward movement, not backward!
Be interesting to ride the sport version of this BMW with the semi-active suspension.

I'll just add another bike to the drool aka don't touch or ride list. Stands at 2 now. KTM 1290 SuperDuke and this S1000R...

Price of any BMW tends to be the decider. Similarly for Ducati. Around $21k for a Triumph S3..how much is this BMW? Very nice bike however. Looks like they learned some things from Triumph though...and came back with something better - but likely $$$ heavy.

MCN UK reckon entry level bike will be under 10k pounds..

Looks like there'll be a fairly big difference in price between the Triumph and the newer bikes. Tuono is $27,000, Beemer likely 28,000, Superduke another 500.
Far enough apart to be a different market really.

Good taste. They're my favourite two 'wish I had em' naked bikes. Good to see both companies have leaned towards a real world 'practical bike' as well as awesome performance.

Can buy a new APRC Tuono for around the $24,500 mark, heck my 2014 RSV4R's RRP was only $27,990+ orc.
In fact you can pick up a 2012 model APRC Tuono for $22,990+

The Aprilias really have become viable financially when comparing with other similar bikes.

If I was going to replace the Speedy the V4 Tuono would definitely be at the top of my list

Was once at the top of my list too, but didn't like the horrible seat and fuel range. So glad I didn't now, considering there's one in NZ with a poked engine and been off the road for over a year while sorting warranty etc. I've heard KTM aren't any better.

I don't have a lot of faith in the local KTM dealer here, some swear by them but I've had too many questionable experiences with them. As far as fuel range on the Tuono goes, it's not something I'm too worried about. I can empty the Speedy pretty quick when it's called for :sweatdrop:innocent:

Fair enough, though the new one has a larger fuel tank up 1.5 litres I think.

Naked BMW is going to retail for just under $20k in Aussie .........

Ironically the parts and warranty for Aprilias are handled by Triumph NZ - who are the ones so terrible with getting shit done in a timely fashion.
Definitely a tough call between the S1000R, KTM 1290 and Tuono V4. I'd give my left nut to have any of those bikes. Will be interesting to see how Triumph respond, and if they up their game.

Even more ironic is that in effect Triumph NZ now are importing the BMW range too...and if you throw in the wee 800cc Brutale, same importer too.
To be fair, I see all 3 or 4 of those bikes as quite different. The KTM is a complete animal and by no means is that a bad thing.
The Triumph is the most behaved out of the group and that will appeal to a wide range of people. We chose our Tuono (and RSV4) over the others simply because of the noise factor and the easy to use electronic package.
Like the Triumph it has a longer wheelbase than say the Brutale which means that it is nicer to ride on NZ roads.
IMO I believe that the BMW will simply be 'too good' and you wouldn't get to really enjoy it unless you were right up it

I've owned a v4 tuono now for a yr and half and absolutely luv this bike it's amazing and the only place it won't go as far as fuel is concerned is into Milford sounds so I got a fuel bladder to carry if I need !! The seat is firm but it's a good shape I can ride all day , the sound is out of this world ! Great bike for that money for sure !

Aye, nice looking machine that BMW. I've been avoiding the local KTM shop too.
But when it comes to aftermarket support failures some of us have very long memories. Which isn't to say I'd never own a marque handled by Triumph NZ, just that it'd have to be priced as a completely unsupported purchase.

Nice, very nice
Ugly, very very ugly
Another fine example of being hit about about the head by the German ugly stick
I'm sure they are a great ride, but I would not want one.
