Considering getting some shorty levers (asv in red, of course) but want to hear pros and cons first? Anyone tried shorties then gone back to full length? If so, why? I two finger brake and four finger clutch (but only cause I have to otherwise it squishes my other fingies). Thoughts?

Shorties are good, usually 2 finger brake and 3 finger clutch. I prefer them to stock...if your controls are light, which they mostly are these days.

Hydraulic systems work well with them ... but cable systems need a little finger strength as a little more leverage is usually required.
YOUR clutch is cable right .. ???

Two fingers clutch, one finger front brakes.

You can get levers with adjustable length, tweak them to suit your wish (or handguards).

Gettin me some Acerbis Multiplo E hanguards/bars in the next week. Never heard of levers with adjustable length? Only ones you can move closer if ya got short fingies.

Been using them for a couple of years at least, so they certainly exist: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313&_nkw=folding+adjustable+levers&_sacat=0&_from=R40
They fold for impacts near the base, adjustable distance to bar and the lever length can be altered.

some love them. I dot like them very much.
I bought some levers that were adjustable in length, and I had the length about halfway between the shortest and longest degree of adjustment (full length about the same as stock)
If you arent sure youll like them, going the adjustable route might work for you, as I know of others who had difference preference on length between the clutch and brake, but still wanted their levers to match.

I'm running shorties and like them.
Do what I did before you spill big bucks on your preferred brand buy a set of shorties from here to see if you like - they are cheap and delivery is quick (5-10days). I struggled to fault the product actually but I was 'treating' myself to a set of CRG levers so needed to know if the shorty option was suitable for me personally.
Once you know what you like, buy the expensive ones and flick the others on TM.

CRG levers are great, and likely so are some of the others mentioned, but most are made for BMW S1000R, R1, CBR1000RR etc etc. Bosslady is probably correct in her choice of brand as they do make levers for bikes like hers.

Bosslady, lookie here (http://www.torpedo7.co.nz/torpedo7/catalogindexsearch.do?formAction=search&hide=true&searchString=BrandId:VZ¤tProductGroup=moto&productGroup=moto) for some ASV levers that won't break the bank

I now have some first hand experience of "folding" levers. They broke higher up
To be fair, the scrapes were on top of the lever so possible the lever tried to fold the wrong way... I was tumbling at the time, so not really in the right frame of mind to wonder what the bike was doing...

Yea took a few broken "unbreakable" levers to realise we had to leave it screwed on loosely enough to let the entire assembly roll around on the bar in a crash.

I found my aftermarket e-bay levers (which were imitations of Pazzos and worked just fine) were about halfway between the stock length and shorties.
If in doubt I'd just go with their 'standard' length.

My bike had ASV short levers on it when i got it. I would find it very weird to go back to full-size ones now. And the stock, big, silver levers look really ugly to me now. I see no drawbacks with mine but im not fussy, they work.

Imitations of imitations? Pazzos are rip-offs of CRG. I just wouldn't feel comfortable with a brake lever that's a rip off of a rip off and made God knows where with zero quality control. But lotsa people are.
After thunk. Some of the organised long distance rides apparently require entrants to carry spare levers. In such circumstances I'd seriously consider "made in China" levers rather than paying the extra for a set of official factory parts.

I see your point, it was a risk I was happy taking (in spending the $$$ on parts that 'may' be bad, despite much positive Ebay feedback).
And again in taking a risk using them once they arrived (when I found they looked just fine to my uneducated eyes).
Anecdotally I did a low-speed 'lay down' of my old bike, and it grazed up the end of the (long) Chazzo lever a bit.
Googling 'chazzo lever broken' reveals a few problems with them being loose/having play, but often that's because people haven't refitted a bushing. Can't find any reports of them breaking. Perhaps every single person who had one break, died as a result? Or never bothered posting?

I've got some el-cheapo ebay knocks off, probably 3-4 years now. Boss got gold and they faded to off white. My blue have been good, broke one up by the mount in a bail which made the folding part redundant :weep: They're nice and functional, folding, extendable and adjustable clickers. Had to use a stock clutch lever until I got home (thank goodness I bought two sets) and didn't like the feel of it compared to the ebay knock offs.

Which ones did you buy? Assuming they are still around on ebay?

This might have been the seller (too long ago to check my history), but the lever design is definitely about right: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gold-Folding-Extendable-Brake-Clutch-Levers-Kawasaki-ZX6R-ZX636R-ZX6RR-00-04-/390656304793?hash=item5af4ee2699
You've got clickers to adjust reach, the lever has a pivot point to fold and the end has a screw to adjust the length of the lever. All adjustment points covered...

Find out if the levers you have are still in production and if they are are they used on any more modern bikes.
Generally only made to be compatible with < 10 year old models bit you might get lucky of the same pattern is still in use.

Go to a site that has parts diagrams. Look up your levers numbers. Then do a parts lookup and see what is compatible. If the part number is superceded look up the replacement number.
