I am looking at touring out in NZ later this year and I was wondering what the best option for kit was. Do I ship my own out or buy out there how bad are your prices ?

Any thoughts appreciated

Bring your own. Many people here already buy their gear from overseas via the internet due to the huge prices we pay here.
E.g. Nolan N103 from USA NZ$262 landed, price here NZ$699. Some things are reasonably priced here, but if you already have kit you're happy with, then bring it with you.

Agreed. Unless you have a mountain of gear and its going to cost to bring it, you'd be best to bring your own.

Be prepared for four seasons in one day. NZ has a maritime climate which is a fancy way of saying we have plenty of wind rain ice and snow. Then the sun comes out. Mostly the weather isn't a problem but it can't be ignored.

Hope you enjoy your visit.

If you have the kit already, just pay the oversize fee and bring it with you. You'll find that NZ prices for most gear is not unbelievably high and most of the time is competitively priced, but due to the fact we are a small market and in corner of the world, some things can be more expensive.

With import duties now though, it is more economical to go through a supplier here for a lot of items.

Example being helmets, usually better to buy here than import, unless it is not available here and the only way to get it is in NZ, in addition to having people you can talk to face to face if you have hassles and need warranty fixes.

To show this, the Nolan N44 helmet High Vis colour is $300 approx in the US, with say $40 US shipping. That comes to $370.37 NZ with a gst value of $63.00, making duties payable adding a further 101.03. Total in the end being around $471.00. The RRP here is $499. Mind you, I agree some things are worth importing, especially if unavailable here. Look on the internet and figure out what you can get here and what to bring.
