Have gotten to be a lazy motorcyclist in the last few years, havent bothered going to many rallys or weekend trips away and the TL has gone many months at a time not even being started so Monday morning dragged it outta the shed and off to work, did that all week and have to say it really was fun and reminded me of years back when i rode everywhere, refreshing really and after work tommorow her indoors is going to pull out the old leather pants n jacket and we are going to head off :bye: somewhere, not sure where will decide on the day.Might take awhile to get going, havent got the heart to tell her but from my recollection her arse was a tad smaller the last time she put em on;)She used to be a real trooper and we did many big trips on the TL her with a bloody great pack on her back,Be a fun day anyway and looking forward to getting a few miles done, have got the old "cant wait to get going" feeling of old back.:banana:Was fun listening to the young fellas at work who ride bikes talking about the old S,some hadnt a clue what it was and wouldnt believe it was 16 years old.

Must be a trend. I also had to drag the bike out and use it to travel to and from work.
Enjoyed it too. Got a feeling that 7 years of taking a work car home might be about to come to an end so bike will get lots more use. Mrs Berg even said I might be allowed a "work" bike so I don't have to rack up the kms on my weekend toy

Bloody good on ya.

Best part of my working day is when I get to ride in to the daily grind.

Was nice, best part of living in a small town (beside the fact that its not a city and all the shit that goes with em) is a nice ride is close so took the very long way home on a couple of evenings.

Same here. Strangely, I always enjoy the ride to work more than the ride home. I thought it was at least partly due to the route being better, but when I thought more deeply about it, it's been the same in the last three jobs. Perhaps it's because I'm fresher and it's cooler?
Heh... today when I went for coffee with my boss and two other "coffee buddies", one of them (in his 60's, drives a new Dodge) was complaining about how "this guy on a bike came past me between the lanes, and his mirror clipped mine! So I rang *555 and gave them his licence plate number, but I doubt if the cops will do anything about it..."
So I said, "So, did he break your mirror?"
"No."
"Was it scratched?"
"No".
"So what's your problem? How's he affected you at all?"
"Um... aah... it's just not right, is it?"
LOL.
Then my boss (2012 AMG C63) chimed in about "...people like that, doing stuff like that, think they're special... mumble grumble..."
"SO?!! I do it!"
"Why? Do you think you're special?"
"I do it because I CAN! And I don't really care what anyone thinks."
"So, you're special, then."
"If you say so."

Fucking good on ya!
And to Mrs 98tls too!

Sometimes it's the small things that we take for granted that can provide so much enjoyment. A pootle in to work, or the "slightly" longer route back home. Dunno why that happens some times. An ice-cream at the beach, or a cooling refreshment somewhere...
Have a great weekend you two!

And some of us ride bikes for work.

I don't know it it's 'lazy' not going to rallies and such.
There are only so many times before any leisure activity becomes a bit same ol'.

I reckon whatever you do on the bike is a journey, whatever you do in the car is a commute. My last job had me out of bed waking the birds up. Not my best time of day. On the few occasions I gave myself enough time to drink coffee and wrestle a bike out of the shed it was fantastic. On the TDM the journey home was an hour of twisties longer, on the DT, 45 mins of gravel. Getting to work I was buzzin. Ready to rock, in the van just heading for my next coffee.

I lived on a bike for decades. Must get that mojo back, or at least some of it.

I've been riding to work for the last 7 months, after 10 years in a car, and then 5 years on a pushbike....it's good getting back to being a daily rider, but geez, winter mornings were hard. I don't do traffic, and the roads are a bit flat and boring...it's all good.

A lucky escape, theres really no need for anyone on gods earth to go to Dunedin, often i think of those unfortunates that live in such a shithole. That aside Vicky and i indeed headed off on the old S though not that far...pig route was a blast as always though the Naseby pub became a trap as always.Vic indeed managed to get herself into those old leathers though could tell from the look on her face when on it wasnt as easy as back then:msn-wink:A great afternoon out though did take a hunk outta the carbon hugger when we tiki toured down a gravel road for a look-see.

I have been back on the bike regularly for the last year, after 5 years of very sporadic riding. Got a company vehicle so don't ride in every day but I do on Fridays most weeks. As George Formby said after my Friday commute I am bright eyed cheerful and raring to go (Actually raring to jump on the bike and hit some twisties to be brutally honest).

I now find it hard to believe I almost gave it away completely. I keep running into ex riders and am almost evangelical in my encouragement to them to get back out there! Maybe sometimes a break is what we need to remind us how much we love doing something?

Couldn't agree more. After 9 years of driving a work van all day every day, I had an enforced change of circumstance and ended up going to Wintec to retrain in a different field, had to commute on the bike. Holy shit it's fun!! Nothing can compare to how alive you feel on those cool almost frosty mornings. Plus setting off all the boy racers car alarms in the parking lot is funny EVERY time.....

Motu
2nd February 2014, 11:27
No, not rediscovering, just going from a every 2nd fine sunday rider to a daily rider. I rode nearly every day until my mid 40's, now I'm 60 and back to being on the bike every day.

Tomorrow I have a new bike to ride to work. The Bandit has gone off to a good home and I rode a GSR600 up from Dunedin today to begin it's service as my daily ride. Nice bike.

Great bike and an excellent commuter (Mrs Berg has it's 750cc sibling). Good riding mate had a GSR600 and put nearly 100,000 trouble free kms commuting to Wgtn from Kapiti.
